A Group Wants Netflix To Cancel Good Omens, An Amazon Show

If you're going to advocate for an issue, you should know the basic facts around it, at the very least. Expertise isn't even required -- just passion and a bare-minimum understanding of what the hell you're talking about. For instance, if you think the TV adaptation of the Neil Gaiman / Terry Pratchett novel Good Omens is too blasphemous to continue existing, then you should at least know what streaming platform it's on before you embarrass yourself. Well, 20,000 doughty souls signed a petition calling for Netflix to cancel Good Omens, a show that is on Amazon Prime.

When it comes to making a difference in the world, online petitions are slightly less useful than wishes, but that didn't stop a hardline Christian group known as Return to Order, which got the overweeningly pious and in-need-of-a-hobby to sign their petition by claiming that Good Omens is "another step to make [S]atanism appear normal, light and acceptable," and that it "mocks God's wisdom." They also don't like that God is voiced by a woman, since the Bible explicitly says in Genesis that a penis is required to create the Universe.

This isn't the first time Return to Order has gotten their Bibles in a bunch over benign applications of religious iconography. In 2018, they tried to petition to death a Canadian soft serve ice cream chain called Sweet Jesus, which had the gall to use the Lord's name alongside Satanic imagery, like the font it used for the letter "S," which was commonly seen in the names of metal bands from the 1970s and '80s. But hey, at least they're keeping busy. It's not like there are any other horrible injustices in need of redress.
