Mary Elizabeth Ellis Shares A Sweet Behind-the-Scenes Detail From ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Jersey Shore Episode
Charlie Kelly is officially pursuing The Waitress again in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s 17th season, and FXX recently took to social media with a recap of the pair’s pained “relationship.”
“I see no evidence of stalking,” they captioned the clip, quoting Charlie in last month’s "Thought Leadership: A Corporate Conversation.”
Ellis, who has been married to Day since 2006, headed to the comments to share a sweet detail about one particular episode from 2011. “20 years of Sunny fun!” she wrote alongside the video. “And Pregnant with our baby at the Jersey Shore!!! Love you @charlie_day.”

This real-life detail paints the beloved “The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore” in a whole new light. It served as a major turning point for Always Sunny’s one-sided couple, marking the first time The Waitress voluntarily spends time with Charlie. While their Paddy’s Pub pals are out accidentally committing armed robbery and enjoying rum ham on a boat, Charlie and The Waitress have a romantic evening together, strolling the beach, collecting sea glass and befriending a puppy before sitting in the sand to watch fireworks.
In true Always Sunny fashion, though, the romance is short-lived. “I was on ecstasy last night, Charlie. You have to tell me everything that happened,” The Waitress says upon waking up.
Nonetheless, the Always Sunny fandom still appreciated the sentiment behind Ellis’ Instagram comment. “Love that you were pregnant at the Jersey Shore. Love that all couples are connected by Always Sunny,” wrote one fan, while another quoted Paddy’s resident Rat King. “I’m going to be with The Waitress. She’s the woman I love.”
That’s definitely one thing Day and his fictional counterpart have in common.
