1. They didn't explain what a "wave" was. Why not "Google Dialogue" or "Google Conversation?" Instead they were trying to make it sound like this unique, weird, never-before-seen thing.
2. They didn't even let me use it. It was in Beta for a few people and then they cancelled it. I might have used it. If they'd ever let me.
Yeah, your universe is full of morons who don't appreciate how cool your new thing is...we get it.
Or...maybe your cool new thing actually was not needed, had a crappy interface and was not fun to use. Maybe we could do most of it in existing products like AIM and email, without the liability of having someone watch what we are composing. Maybe writing messages, which involves seeing your words in print, deciding they are not what you want to say after all and polishing them, is not at all like having a conversation.
Nah, you're right. the truth must be that we are a bunch of barely literate fools who can't recognize a cool new thing when we see it.
Its amusing when people response to subtle sarcasm that went under their noses with all to obvious, c**k-slap sarcasm. Some might even say that is ironic.
It was great for collaberation at work. We used it all the time, but thinks to idiots like you, on your crappy laptop using wireless your friend setup with Windows Vista which you think is "really good and those geeks don't know what they are talking about" it is going away.
I'm thinking, like many others have stated, its failure is primarily due to lack of publicity as this video is the first time I've ever heard of it as well. One issue that stood out for me was the real time typing thing. As it was stated in the video, that's more like actually talking and you have to carefully think about what you're saying. That's what phones and face to face interaction is for. IMing is about just putting s**t down and being able to edit it if you take it a bit too far before others can see it.
Well done Cody, that was both very amusing and completely correct. I suspect everyone who worked on the project feels almost exactly the way you portrayed it.
Great job Cody. But it honestly is all Google's fault. They never publicized when it was opened for everyone to use. They shouldn't have been such douchebags about it.
Like Deis, I watched the tutorial on this app last year. It looked great, and they did address that 'peeping over your shoulder while you compose' issue. But I thought then as now, "why did Google not do this app before Facebook and iPhone took over? (i.e. 5 years ago)". Also, Google did not promote the thing, but why bother on a product launched too late. Instead, Google's focus this year has been on getting their porn-peddling operations up and running in China.
So it's IM?
ReplyI was thinking that.

The reason I didn't use Google Wave was twofold:
Reply1. They didn't explain what a "wave" was. Why not "Google Dialogue" or "Google Conversation?" Instead they were trying to make it sound like this unique, weird, never-before-seen thing.

It still works. I used it on Tuesday.
"And even that was based on mail, which was invented always"
ReplyBest line.
I think after this, Google would've invented IRC again.
Replyi'm really just at a loss at what the hell is so special about it. it sounds like any other thing that lets you talk to people
ReplyAIM already has Group Chat.

"...soon be unavailable to you the public, who is apparantly too busy playing farmville to realise how cool it is."
ReplyWaldoh says: Wow google should make a toilet that archives your poop so you can restore a turd if needed. You know, for like, science and stuff
ReplyI love Cody's tutorial videos. The tone of voice, the graphics, the script, all are always full of win. More tutorial videos please :)
ReplyI signed up to Google Wave about a year ago after my sister invited me. Never, ever used it.

Reply Hide All See All 5 Repliesyeah. i had no idea it existed until 5 minutes ago.
I had no idea what this was before this video.
Also, they made it out that it was the greatest new revolution on the internet, so the reality of it was pretty disappointing.
I actually watched the original tutorial thing, thought it was cool, then forgot all about it.

Whoever's voice that is, congratulations, it's adorable. I like this video simply for that reason.
