The blue aliens didn't end up being that stupid, I think they pulled them off pretty well.

Most movies that people hate, I hate, also, with a small exception (Treasure Planet, Independence Day: Movies I love, and not ironically, but sincerely). The difference is that I tend to dislike movies for a DIFFERENT REASON THAN EVERYONE ELSE. For instance, Avatar: Everyone hates it because of blue people, and it is a rip-off. (Because remember that part in Ferngully where you put your mind into another body? And do you remember that scene in just about every movie that has ever been made where there was a forest? A FOREST, man! Clearly, Avatar is a rip-off) But me? I disliked the movie because it was mediocre. Every piece of dialogue was contrived, and is there for the sole purpose of moving the story along. No one seems to have ANY kind of motivation. Even Jake didn't seem to want legs THAT badly. I didn't care about anyone, and listening to the trite lines (not in Kansas? AAAGH!) threw me out of the picture anytime I accidentally started getting into it for some reason. What a bland, insipid movie that I'll probably watch again, one day and like much more the second time.

I never thought I would see the day when I would defend Avatar, but I gotta say that this is kinda unfair. I mean god forbid that the creative work of anybody should bare any resemblance to any work of art that comes before it. There's like a million quotes by various creative individuals that basically says creativity is imitation and smart thievery. Almost any work of art can be broken down into its component parts and the roots of that work be exposed. It's only when it's put together that it can become something unique unto itself. Aside from the power loader, which I think is a deliberate nod from the director to his own work, nothing else seen here really stinks of plagiarism. The central concept of the human mind controlling an avatar has been used plenty of times way before the Matrix films, I mean that's how computer games have always worked right? Or any story ever that has dealt with mind controlling another person? It's just a narrative device.

'fess up, guys. Are they the editorial staff's illegitimate love children? How else are they so adorably awesome!?

Well, the thing is that Avatar turned out to be...enjoyable. Yeah, it stole the hell out of a lot of movies, but it did so in a manner that wasn't completely blatant and idiotic. Plus, the visual effects worked out enough to keep me satisfied.

Now, when people were asking for it to be Best Picture...no. Just, no.

You know whats funny? There are a lot of things legitimately wrong with avatar, and Gladstone focuses on 5 things that don't actually stolen that much. The points he focused on seemed very contrived.

yeah the story was a bit cliche, but thats not the point. the cgi is the best i've ever seen. if, one day, the director can combine the two (unlike george lukas) it'd be perfect.

so what if it's not ORIGINAL...hardly any plot in any movie or in any book is original. everything is inspired by another. avatar was visually stunning and entertaining. so what if it's slightly like another movie? james cameron spent 5 years making this movie. so shut up.

Now, please, just think about what you just said, here since it is so obvious that you have some problems with thinking, I'll help you. Okay, now, point one; If no book, movie or other plot is not original, where'd the plots that copied other plots get their f**king plots?! 2) Now, since I know, your too much of a idiot to see another argument than, "I said hardly not no, stupid" Well, then why are most plots f**king original? 3) You have absolutely no f**king evidence to support your poorly thought out claim, now, I know that your gonna say the same to me, well, prove; Terminator, Alien and the other movies that Avatar stole from. That's pretty much all, oh yeah, Avatar sucked and I'm so pissed that I'll never have those 3 hours of my life back, I kept on thinking, oh, maybe the mind blowing experience is next, but apparently I'm not so stupid that I'm amazed by flashy s**t. And, 'So shut up' Really, you have no better way to end it other than, 'So shut up' Well, that's all, I got better things to do than try to force brain dead a*****es to f**king think. Wow, I needa find a better use of my time...
