I've always said that the "second Golden Age" of Hollywood was from circa 1985 - 1995, because that's when "independent" film makers really hit the scene (e.g., David Lynch, the Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, and their ilk). Unfortunately, the "mainstream" once again wants to go with rehashes of mediocre Steven Spielberg flicks. Yawn!

The opening clip reminded me of Stepford Wives as well as AI. The advertisement clip that Gladstone attributed to I, Robot also reminded me a bit of The Island and somewhat Vanilla Sky (again), just because of the ads selling the new way of life through technology. Bruce sitting on the subway looking at freaked out cyberpunks looked a bit like The Final Cut (although they weren't robots in that). Good call on Total Recall. And it all smacks of The Matrix, sure, and Ghost in the Shell (as evildave said). Plus the 'remote-linked-Avatar' thing seems to be a popular theme this season (i.e. Gamer and.... well... Avatar). But most of these seem like pretty superficial comparisons based on the shots and visual similarities of the clips. Of course, the premise is hardly original, but I happen to love the futurist subcategory of the sci-fi genre, so I'm sure I will see this movie.

i get that this is basically an excuse to make jokes, but most of these "similarities" are a pretty big damn reach. i mean, you nail the trailer for someone jumping onto a bus ('cause that's ripping off someone crushing a car's hood, i guess?) and then just some robot saying they're married to the main character. And then you don't bother to call them on scene where a surrogate gets hit in the head and half his face is torn off (when i saw the trailer that immediately made me think of terminator) oh, and you make several comparisons to the matrix without pointing out that the whole MOVIE is basically the matrix from an entirely different angle. ohwell, that turned out longer than i thought it would.
