When it comes to filmmaking, one of the top priorities is telling—at the barest of minimums—a cohesive story. You know, the kind of story that follows a through line. Characters' motivations have to make sense, especially when we've spent movie after movie (and in the MCU's case, after movie, after movie, after mo…) getting to know those characters. So when they seem to flip motivations on a dime, we in the audience are left bamboozled and eye-bugged. Thankfully, we live in a society were scripts go through levels and levels of review, actors spend a lot of time learning the ins and outs of their characters, and everything makes total sense.
