About gstarr

My name is Graham Starr, originally from New Jersey, and currently studying International Relations and (if I’m able to) Physics at Tufts University. I run a site for music and reviews, aptly named Music And Reviews (www.musicandreviews.com). I started M&R back in the summer of 2010. I always had a real interest in music and would occasionally post tracks I had found or reviews for albums on my personal blog, but nothing too intense, so I one day decided to step it up a notch, and thus, that site was born.

In June 2011, I also started reviewing music for and blogging for Chinup Music, until September 2011 when the site dissolved. As of December 2011, I also blog for Tha Good Life Reviews.

In addition to reviewing music, I also play several instruments, and have always been passionate about music in general. Aside from music, however, I will occasionally blog about world events and government policy (which makes sense considering my major). I'm a total news junkie and foreign policy buff who's often engulfed in research or articles aside from music. I'm also a Neubauer Scholar and member of the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University. I'm currently conducting research on dissident and opposition movements in Belarus, and the oppression with which they've been met. Additionally, I'm conducting research on cyber warfare and cyber security, and its effect on the changing diplomatic age (State Dept's Diplomacy 2.0), and may plan on making a career out of cyber issues.

Additionally, I'm incredibly interested in science and technology (as can be seen by my second major), and enjoy conducting research in theoretical physics, psychology, neuroscience, and robotics.

I've also been involved in the formation and operation of several non-profits and organizations. In 2008, in a movement led by a friend and a group of 6 of us, I helped catalyze the Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization, or MEVO (mevoearth.org), a youth-led, environmental volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit that currently has over 1200 members and volunteers across New Jersey and New York City. From 2009-2011, I served as a member of the board of directors, the director of the video team, leader of the case against the Pilot station in Mahwah, NJ, president of the organization, and coordinator for the Mahwah Chapter. In August of 2011, I ended my run as leadership of MEVO, leaving the organization in the very capable hands of two other staffers.

In June 2011, I was named a 2011 GE-Reagan Scholar. With two friends met through the scholarship and two friends from Tufts, I co-founded Students United, an organization still in its logistical stage with chapters currently at Georgetown and Tufts. Students United aims to connect students at different universities in humanitarian action and issues on the global scale, partnering with other organizations and raising awareness for crises. SU also promotes scholarship by focusing on single issues per season and funding research catalyzed and conducted by the members themselves to actually make a difference. We may only just be starting, but we hope to one day change the world.

So hi, I'm Graham Starr. It's very nice to meet you.
