I am Ultimate Ridley, in case you have the memory of a braindead goldfish.
I can be described as many things, and only some of those are good, but above all else, I'm a gamer.
A single-playing gamer, mind you. By that, I mean I prefer to do a storyline or questline to achieve something, as opposed to going out and killing random dudes so I can scream at people on Xbox Live about how awesome I am when they call me a noob.
"So, what games do you play?" you may be asking (you aren't). I play games from virtually all genres, but I heavily gravitate towards RPGs (moreso Western RPGs than Japanese RPGs), and Metroidvania games. As for the RPG statement in parentheses about how I tend to enjoy WRPGs more than JRPGs, there is one notable exception: Pokémon. Although I'm not as much of a die-hard fan as I was between 2001-2007, I still enjoy Pokémon greatly, at least to the point that I decided to feature my Kabutops figurine (Kabutops being my favorite Pokémon) in my avatar.
Despite my love for Pokémon, my absolute favorite game series of all time is Metroid. Every single Metroid game is excellent in one regard or another (Other M? What's that?), and I can't stop playing them. And, coincidentally, the villain of the series shares my name, and he happens to be my favorite villain in the history of video games. I own every Metroid game released to this day and have beaten all of them at least three times (some of them well past thirty).
By the time many of you read "Pokémon", I'm sure a lot of you just left my profile page. Those who hung on to a glimmer of hope then just lost it when they read "Metroid", probably. Why? Because both are Nintendo games. And we all know how fucking isolated Nintendo fanboys are from the rest of the gaming realm (or rather, how isolated the rest of the gaming realm is from Nintendo's fanbase). But don't assume my allegiances just yet!
Mario's cool half the time, but the other half he's either in a spin-off or in a "canon" (pssh) 3D platformer, which, for the record, I suck at (in comparison to the 2D Mario platformers, which I'm a beast at).
Zelda's pretty neat, but it's so damned overhyped over Metroid. Seriously; there is no reason one should be better in sales over another. But Zelda, I guess, wins because of Ocarina of Time? (In my opinion, that game doesn't even come close to Metroid Prime 1 in terms of quality) I'm just a bit pissed that Nintendo held this huge-ass anniversary celebration for Zelda's 25th, but Metroid didn't get shit. Not even a fucking mention.
The only Nintendo properties (aside from Metroid and Pokémon) I can say I'm a true fan of are WarioWare and Kirby, both because they're still good today and because of nostalgia. That and the old 2D Mario platformers and a few Zelda titles, otherwise anything else Nintendo made is "eh" in my opinion.
That said, I refuse to take sides in this retarded "console war". I hold no complete allegiance with Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony. If I'm not playing Metroid/Pokémon/WarioWare/Kirby, I'm probably playing a PC game. Because I'm a PC gamer.
One type of game I just don't enjoy playing is the war game (Gears of War exempt). I love shooters and by no means do I mind the presence of a gun in a game (I actually almost prefer it if there is a gun - almost), but these first person shooters set in modern war time with modern war themes that are basically the blockbusters of the gaming industry are just "eh" in my opinion. But that's probably because they all focus on the multiplayer mode so much that they put a half-assed effort into the single player campaign, the latter which is the only reason I'd play the game in the first place.
In terms of MMORPGs, I dislike the ones that make Player versus Player a core aspect of the game. If it's a sideline feature that you can do for fun or to kill time, fine. But when an MMORPG chooses to focus on Player versus Player (meaning two or more players fighting one another; I don't mind having other players in the same server), I get bored of it really fast.
That's pretty much it for my gaming tastes. Now let me move on to my movie tastes.
Very broad. But I prefer movies that make you think.
Now, let's move on to my music tastes.
Metal.
If you think I should just end that section right there because you think "all metal music is the same", oh boy are you in for a treat.
I tend to dislike the super-brutal stuff that most people stereotype metal to sound like (in reality, only about 5% of all metal falls into this range - a statistic I just pulled out of my ass. But it's something like that!) and lean toward the melodic stuff like melodic death metal, thrash metal, symphonic metal, folk metal, and (those of you who can actually distinguish between the aforementioned subcategories of metal will probably hate me for this) some metalcore.
Oh, and here's a pet peeve of mine: don't call a non-metal band metal, and don't call a metal band anything "less" than such. I'm not threatening you, even though it clearly sounds like that, but I'm informing you of a Berserk Button of mine (TVTropes reference!).
The following bands are not metal: Nickelback, System of a Down*, Disturbed*, Skillet, Godsmack, Linkin Park, etc.
*Though they come really fucking close to it.
And also, "death" screaming doesn't immediately mean metal.
My own personal history on the Internet is rather shaky, and I've discussed it so many times with other sites that I do not wish to discuss it yet again here.
I also draw stuff and occasionally make comics and write stories. Most of my drawings and comics can be found in my deviantArt gallery. (http://ultimateridley.deviantart.com/)
Additional information about me: I'm 18 years old.
I'm not going to offer a tl;dr version of this, you lazy ass. I know you just scrolled down to the bottom of this page.
And if you didn't just scroll to the bottom... wow, I'm impressed you're that patient. Have a digital cookie. Oh, wait, you probably already have one for logging in. No seconds, you pig!
Ultimate Ridley out.
