Butthurt

"Butthurt" is Internet slang for when a person is offended at something posted, filmed, Photoshopped, or otherwise inserted into the Internet, inevitably because it somehow disagrees with that person's politics, opinions, or worldview.  This person will then comment about how they found that offensive and it should be taken down, and the poster should automatically see the light that this commenter/poster/whatever is right about absolutely everything and beg forgiveness.

In short, it's pointless, self-centered whining from people who can't accept that others disagree with them.  It makes up about 99% of the Internet, the rest being Cracked feature articles.

No group is immune from butthurt, because no group is ever 100% right about everything, and there might not even be a "right" anyway.  Just to add to the fun, we are actually hard-wired, as human beings, to our commitments.  Once we decide on something, we commit to it, and then cling to that commitment with a ferocity not unlike that of a rabid wolverine with lockjaw.  It doesn't matter HOW wrong we turn out to be, in fact the more wrong we turn out to be, the more we get invested in the idea that we're right.  We view the letting-go of an opinion to not just be surrendering something intangible but actually as a material loss.  And the more we think we'll lose, the more committed we get.  You might be thinking this explains an awful, awful lot about what you see in the news.  You would be correct.

In short, butthurt is a dark mirror of humanity worst, selfish urges, reflecting our primal fear of being humiliated in front of a massive audience and our deep-seated need, however irrational and impossible, to be always right.  You know, just like the NAZIS.
