Gillian Anderson

She began her career doing stage work and eventually moved to L.A to pursue a career in movies.

"First of all, I swore I'd never move to Los Angeles, and once I did, I swore I'd never do television. It was only after being out of work for almost a year that I began going in [to auditions] on some stuff that I would pray that I wouldn't get because I didn't want to be involved in it."

In 1993 she auditioned for the part of Scully. She admitted to being economical with the truth during her audition saying she was 27 when she was really 24. Fox executives didn't want to cast her in the role,they wanted someone 'sexier'. It has been rumoured that Pamela Anderson was considered for the role, but thankfully (depending on your point of view) series creator Chris Carter stuck by his decision to cast Anderson (Gillian obviously, not Pammy).

This decision didn't quite bite him on the ass but it did take a sizeable nibble when Anderson became pregnant during the first series. The execs wanted to recast the role but again Carter insisted that Anderson was the only woman for the job and came up with an alien abduction storyline to explain her absence from the show. She gave birth to daughter Piper Maru on september 25th 1994 and returned to work 10 days later. She made Carter the godfather, so at least his efforts weren't in vain, now he has the lifelong responsibility to another person to make up for it. Fulfilling his godfatherly duty, he named an episode after her in season 3.

Unlike VIP, The X-files went on to become an award winning critically acclaimed show so i guess Carter should get a bit of credit for his amazing foresight. Anderson even wrote and directed an episode 'All Things', the episode was the first ever to hint at a sexual relationship between Mulder and Scully when the opening sequence showed Scully getting dressed in Mulder's bathroom while he slept, possibly naked, in the adjoining bedroom.

Rumours about her relationship with Duchovny have ranged from them absolutely hating each other to reports that they were having an affair. To be honest, i think they got along well, like most colleagues do but they're probably not best friends. This video is an outtake from the first X-Files movie, they clearly hate each other..... The series ended in 2002 after 9 years. The rights to the show were tied up for several years but they finally managed to make a movie, 'I Want to Believe' which was released last summer.

When the X-Files ended she fought hard not to be typecast and displayed her range in a variety of movies, mini-series and stage productions. She recieved critical acclaim for many of her performances such as her portrayal of Lily Bart in House of Mirth and Lady Deadlock in BBC's The Bleak House. Her filmography includes roles in the well received 'A Cock and Bull Story', the excellent 'The Last King of Scotland', the slightly disturbing 'Straightheads', and she was one of the very few high points of the painful 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People'.

As a teenager she was a tad wild. In her senior year she was voted 'Most likely to get arrested', and true to form she was arrested on her graduation night for breaking in to the school with some friends and attempting to glue the locks of the doors shut. She was also voted 'Most Bizarre Girl' and 'Class clown'.

On the X-Files Gillian met her future first husband, assistant art director Clyde Klotz. They got married on New Years day 1994 on the 17th hole of a golf course in Hawaii, the buddhist monk who performed the ceremony was the only person present. So you could say she has a flair for the unconventional. They had 1 child and then divorced in 1997.
In December 2004, Anderson married her second husband Julian Ozanne on an island off the coast of Kenya. They announced their separation in April 2006. She then became involved with english businessman Mark Griffiths, their first child Oscar was born in November 2006. You do the math......
But so far so good, Anderson is now living in London with Griffiths and they have another son Felix who was born in October 2008.

Against all laws of God and Man, she seems to get hotter as she gets older.

Anderson is quite the activist particularly concerning Neurofibromatosis as her brother suffers from the disease. Other charities she is involved with concern Africa and Animals:

"I do not really have that much to say except that perhaps everyone who reads this could spare a few more minutes of their time and visit an AIDS related website to fill themselves in a bit more about what's going on with AIDS in Africa at the moment cause it's a real real problem right now and everyone and their cat should know the seriousness of the catastrophe. Oh my God, no pun intended."
