Monk is an American television detective show revolving around a man with a great perm
Monk is an American comedy-drama mystery television series, where a man named Adrian Monk (played by Tony Shalhoub) solves horrible murders in under an hours, and remains largely unaffected by them. It was created Andy Breckman, and it ran from 2002 to 2009 and features some dark comedy touches. (like Black Swan, but funny)
This show has been called the only reason that you ever heard of USA Network. This show holds the record for most watched scripted drama episode in cable television, and it set the record with "Mr. Monk and the End - Part II", its series finale. It clocked in at 9.4 million viewers, 33% of them from teh 18-49 demographic. (To be fair, that is quite a large span of years)
Adrian Monk was at one point an amazing detective for the SAn Francisco PD until Trudy, his wife was killed by a car bomb that Monk thought was meant for him. Because of this tradgedy, Monk suffers a nervous breakdown and is fired from the force. (Because your wife exploding into many chunks is no excuse for shoddy work). He becomes a hermit, and never leaves his house for three years.
He is finally able to leave thanks to his nurse Sharona Fleming (played by Bitty Schram). Since he can now stand the site of the sun, he works as a private detective and a consulatantfor the homicide unit despite his OCD limitations that have taken root since his wife's death.
Monk has many phobias, 312 in fact. He states that he is afraid of milk, ladybugs, harmonicas, heights, imperfections, and risk. Because of his OCD, this leads him to many wacky, death filled shennanigans as he investigates who raped and murdered your mother. This helps him because he has a photographic memory, and he can connect things together, that really have no place in being connected, but somehow always end up with the killer being caught.
Mr. Monk is that fine line between smooth talking mexican afro ninja, and autistic child that cant tie his shoes. Wacky adventures? YOU BET!
