American English is the variation of English spoken in the United States
- Many American English words are a lot older than the ones used in British English. They were brought over to the States with Americans, but then died out in England but remained in usage in the US
- American English is often thought as as more modern, but if you traveled back in time to the Elizabethan era, you would find that most people sounded more American than anything else.
- Likewise the 'missing u' in many American English words like 'color' actually reflects older spelling. The u's were inserted later.
