Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse, the beloved mascot for the Disney Corporation was created in 1928 by Walt himself. Mickey the trademark is one of the most well known in the world despite the fact that Mickey the mouse hasn’t made anyone laugh since 1935.

Just The Facts

  1. Mickey Mouse has starred in over one hundred solo shorts and has appeared in countless promos, cameos, and logos.
  2. Everyone likes Mickey Mouse but no one knows why.
  3. The popularity of early Mickey shorts allowed Disney to expand his company into evil corporation that is, at this very moment, forcing you to fantasize about Miley Cyrus.

The World Meets Mickey

Walt Disney described Mickey Mouse as "a clean-living, fun-loving, 'nice-guy.' He is a hard worker who puts his "all" into anything he attempts. (He is) Intelligent, quick-witted, and a true optimist." Hilarious right? Basically Walt set out to create the most boring, normal, and unfunny cartoon character ever. Bear in mind that most cartoon characters at this point in history were hippos tap-dancing in a hilariously racist manner.

Mickey's debut, Steamboat Willy is seven minutes long and completely devoid of jokes. Apparently in 1928 the idea of a mouse operating a piece of heavy machinery was so side-splittingly funny that nothing else was necessary. That said Mickey does spend nearly two minutes of the film torturing animals so that their screams of pain would vaguely approximate the jaunty tune in the background. Classic.

Steamboat Willy became so popular that Mickey became a star and branched out into other media including books, television and this comic strip were he tries to kill himself.

For real.

Mickey merchandise is still a huge seller for Disney despite being worn exclusively by morbidly obese southern women.

Well, mostly...
