Jersey Devil AKA

Startling new evidence?

You handsome devil.

Just The Facts

  1. First documented in 1735
  2. Impervious to cannonfire. Or so the story goes.
  3. The subject of countless (seriously, I just didn't bother to count) investigations. All of which were "inconclusive."

The legend of the Jersey Devil.

It goes like this, some lady apparently got knocked up in New Jersey (shocker) in the 1700s. It was supposedly her thirteenth child. From there the story splits, there was either a curse involved, or thirteen is just unlucky. When the kid was born, it was part horse, part bat, and all crazy flapping demon child. It flew away and never came back. Or did it!? (cue dramatic music) Another version of the story says that it came back and visited it's mother every day until she died.

Skip forward a while and we get to the story of a guy inspecting a cannonball factory. When he came outside he saw the devil perched u in a tree in front of him. So what did he do? Fired a damn cannon at it. Duh. The cannonball supposedly bounced off the creature, leaving it unharmed.

Supposedly the devil reappeared several times over the years, with a big spurt of activity in 1909 when people were finding weird hoof-shaped footprints in their yards. Then in the early 1960s, two couples were parked in a car in the Pine Barrens (bow chikka wow wow) and they heard a crazy screeching noise, then they claim the roof of the car got smashed in and they ran away. Then when they came back, they heard the noise again and saw something flying through the trees.
