Early Years of David Bowie (1947-1967)...

Now, David Bowie wasn't always glitter, glam and rock. In fact, his name wasn't always Bowie! He was born in Brixton, London, England as David Robert Jones on January. 8th. 1947. Later, him and his family moved to Bromley.David was introdused to music at a young age by most members of his family such as his father and half-brother. After learning to play  the saxophone, Bowie formed his own band, "The Konrads", in 1962. After his success with that band, he then joined sevral other bands such as The King Bees, The Manish Boys and The Riot-Squad, not only playing, but singing aswell. Whilea ll this was going on, David would perform either as his own name or as his stage name "Davie Jones". Which eventually got him mixed up with both Davy Jones from The Monkees and Davey Jones from Pirates Of The Caribbean. "Holy crap David! What happened to yo... oh wait, Sorry Mr.Jones." So of coarse he needed a new stage name. That's where the name Bowie comes in. He got his name from his hero Jim Bowie and his famous Bowie Knife. But even though he had a new nickname, David still didn't gain much success. He released his first ever album self titled David Bowie in 1967. But alas, David still didn't gain much success. now, I could ramble on forever on the several decades that it took for him to acctually be noticed, with barely any profit, but in the intrest of time and me being lazy, i'm gunna skip a couple of decades for this next section called...

Getting His Name Out (1969-1976)

In this time, David was just trying to get his name out there and to get known. He released some of his #1 hit albums such as Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold The World and Honky Dory.  In thr June of 1972, David introdused us to a new stage persona that went with his new album Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. That persona was of coarse, Ziggy Stardust. Then after a year of touring and showing off his new looks, David released the album Aladdin Sane once again performing all his shows as Ziggy Stardust. But after only a year on the stage, David retired Ziggy Stardust with his last tour as the persona faded away in July of 1973. But that was far from it for our rocker. In 1974, he released the album Diamond Dogs with the album featuring some major hits such as "Rebel Rebel" and of coarse "Diamond Dogs". And in 1976, David gave us a new persona ,along with another album, Station to Station. This new "alter ego" was called "The Thin White Duke".Is it just me, or does he like, NEVER age?

This is where David went a little off his rocker. By this time he was addicted to many drugs. but mostly cocaine. He had overdosed several times during the year of 1976, thankfully none of them killing him. He had lost a great amount of weight and he was wilting. Mentally and physically.

But this didn't stop David from putting on another tour in 1976 with his persona as The Thin White Duke.  During the tour, David was found with Nazi paraphenalia and during " The Victoria Station" incident, a picture of David was taken of him gving a Nazi salute to the croud! Now this might sound like some badass rebel move from him, but he said that the photographer simply caught him in mid-wave. And of coarse we bought it because we love him THAT MUCH!

Before the end of the year, David claimed that all the Nazi, drugs and Thin White Duke stuff, was just because he was having some problems in his life at this time. And once again we, the public, bought it.

The Berlin Era (1976 - 1979)

In this time, David released a series of three albums over three years in which were called "The Berlin Trilogy" during a time they called "The Berlin Era". I know, they were so creative then. The first in this trilogy was Low. And, no, he did NOT colaborate with T-pain or Flo-rida for that album. Once that album was released, there wasn't a whole lot going on untill he released his next album in the trilogy called Heroes in 1977. For the christmas of that year, David and Bing Crosby got together to sing the songs "Little Drummer Boy" and "Joy to the World". In 1978, David and his band went on a world tour that proved extremely exspensive.Yup, he dosn't age.

1979 was when David released the final in the berlin trilogy. This album was named Lodger, which to me just sounds like a lame nickname that a canadian lumberjack might have.  This album contained many hits such as "Look Back in Anger", "Boys Keep Swinging" and "DJ". And thus ended the Berlin Era and by this time, David was a rising star well on his way to becoming who he is today.

Moving On Up! (1980 - 1996)

Alright, David at this point had an amazing following and was becoming an international star. In 1980, he released the album Scary Monsters (and Super Freaks) which gave us the hit song "Ashes to Ashes" in which David dressed as sone kind of mime thing for the music video. During 1980, he divorced his wife Angie, gave up his drug use, and dramatically changed the way he lived. In 1981, David and Queen released the song "Under Pressure". David then released the soundtreack to a german movie, which he partially played in,  called Christiane F. Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo which I believe means "I HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!" but my german is a little rusty. Let's Dance was David first major hit albums when it was released in 1983. It had songs such as "Modern Love" and "China Girl". In 1985, David performed in the Wembley Stadium with some of his hits songs like "Rebel Rebel", "Modern Love" and "Heroes". In 1987, David released his last solo album called Never Let Me Down then went on tour in the same year for the newly released album.

Then, for the first time since the early 70's, he formed a band with Reeves Gabrels, Tony Sales, and Hunt Sales. The band's name was Tin Machine and shortly after being formed, they released the self titled album Tin Machine.

David then opened up the 90's with a bang with a tour in which he vowed never to play any of his old hits again.Nope, not a day older.

Soon, the band Tin Machine went down the drains when both new albums Tin Machine II and Tin Machine Live:Oy Vey, Baby failed horribly. At that point, David lft the band to ork on his own due to the fact that he felt limited in the band. So basically, due to "creative differences".

Then, in 1995 , he released a song with Nine Inch Nails called "Heart's Filthy Lesson". The next year, David gained a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

David Bowie today

Today, David Bowie is still releasing albums, his newest being Reality which was released in 2003. David has been an amazing influence on millions of people around the world and like many other people, I prey that David Bowie shall live for a long time to come. He is currently 62 years old and is still damn hot! And all the fangirls squeeled

Acting career

Over the years, David has featured in many TV shows and movies. He voice acted in an episode of Spongebob Square Pants and acted in Arthur and the Invisibles as the antagonist Maltazard.  He has acted in many movies such as The Hunger, The Man Who Fell To Earth, The Prestige, The Last Temptaion Of Christ and in his most known role, Labyrinth as the goblin king Jareth. David was almost going to play The Joker ifor the 1989 Batman. But the role went to Jack Nicholson instead. It is said that they believed it would be to damn awesome to have David Bowie play the part of The Joker.
