Back to the Future
Back to the Future is a story of time travel, moral lessons and a dangerous lunatic who nearly destroys the universe on three separate occasions and nearly kills the underage boy he hangs around with on at least five others.
Just The Facts
- In the first movie, Doc Brown makes a huge deal out of the sanctity of time and the terrible risks of future information. He then spends the next thirty years building a time machine.
- Doc suffers the same genetic disorder as real-life Michael J Fox, making him look exactly the same no matter how old he gets.
- In the third movie he builds a magical steam powered Happy-Ending-Mo-Bile.
Doc Brown: Evil Lunatic
Doc Brown first tested his time machine on his own dog and was visibly surprised when it actually survived. Other highlights include nearly running himself over by remote control, using a date-rape machine on Marty's girlfriend and accidentally creating an entire dimension of hell.
This is why he was controversially cast as Commander Kruge in Star Trek 3. While most were baffled at the choice of a comedic actor, director Leonard Nimoy recognized an actor who could portray destroying an entire world without giving a rat's ass.

Actually the "magical steam powered Happy-Ending-Mo-Bile" is quite possible. Dr Emmett has the flux capacitor and the Mister Fusion in the Delorean, that is in the mine, the only thing he has to do is put them on the locomotive wagon, that way he can travel to the future where he can build a new flux capacitor and buy a new Mister fusion, return to the mine in the past and put them in the Delorean, that is in the mine, so Marty can use it in the future to return in time so he can save Dr. Emmett. So it isn't magical it's quite possible.
ReplyNote: When you're storing a car in a cave for even a few months (never mind doing it for 70 years) you don't store it with the gas inside. Unless you secretly hate your fuel lines and injectors. Also? People aren't likely to remember how someone they knew for a week 30 years ago looked and make the connection between them and their son when no logical connection exists. These are two of the biggest, and dumbest, "BttF Mistakes" people mention. Not realizing the logical explanations for them. YOU DO NOT STORE CARS WITH THE GAS IN THEM!!!
ReplyEasy, easy man, it's called "stabil" run some through the car before storing it, making sure you have enough in the tank in relation to how much gas is in there.
Hey Butthead, the Doc DIDN'T store the DeLorean with gas in it. Don't you remember Doc saying "I put gas in the tank and your future clothes in the trunk" dont ask why i can quote it so well... so yeah whatever. You dont even know what your talking about. And besides. What fun would a fictional story be if it was one-hundred percent accurate? ITS A MOVIE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! LIGHTEN UP UP PEOPLE!
Doc actually got bionic implants, rejuvenation, etc. from different timelines. Really they made him as fit as he was back in 1955. Clara was 37, so if you say by quarter then Doc is 37(4) which is 148.
Reply Hide All See All 3 RepliesYeah, Biff tried to rape his wife, but George is a nice and forgiving guy while Biff is actually making up for past sins to him, plus if it wasn't for him they wouldn't have had a wealthy family.
The accident didn't really ruin Marty's life, but it did ruin his dream, which at a kid his age is probably still undetermined. A kid going to jail is worse than that because Marty has a nice life anyway, and its better he learns to have control over his "don't call me chicken" problem by himself.
hmm it kinda ruined his life, not his so much maybe but his family's - jennifer marries him out of pity (just like lorraine and she ended up a chubby miserable alcoholic and him a strange manchild) and they have a crappy wedding, she's unhappy, they live in a s****y neighbourhood and thats BEFORE he gets fired, and his kids... something's gotta be done about his kids
The age thing was just a general exageration joke, shouldn't read into it so much.
If anything if you wanted to boil it down to facts wouldn't she be the older one?
Re: #8 Back To The Future
Reply Hide All See All 4 RepliesThe average person doesn't have photographic memory, so they're probably not going to remember exactly what someone looks like even 13 years after they last saw someone, when they only saw him for 2 weeks, and not a single photograph was taken. Even if Marty was their first child, he obviously would share features of both his mom and dad at birth and while growing up, so even then it's unlikely they would draw any comparisons to the memory of how that weird kid looked.
Like I said though, that's if he was their first child. He was actually the youngest child of 3, meaning that even if either of them did actually have a photographic memory, it would just seem to be a really odd coincidence that their kid grew up to look exactly like that one kid that hooked them up and was never seen again, some odd 30 years ago.
Finally, Hill Valley isn't exactly a giant metropolis , and people didn't exactly have the ability to share music back then either. So hearing a version of the song they heard at the dance on the radio 3 years later would've probably only resulted in people saying "Chuck Berry? Hey, come to think of it that band at our dance was "Marvin Berry and the Starlighters", and that weird kid we've never seen again played that song". I doubt that any ideas of time travel would've entered into the cause/effect scenario.
In the end, a lot of this stuff (including the Calvin Klien thing) would boil down to some serious deja vu - but It would be hard to believe that George McFly would ever think that Marty wasn't his son.
Great...wrong tab, and a failure of a comment system to boot.
great comment anyway
plus its not like marty walked back into their life looking the same, he slowly developed from a baby into what he looked like at 17 which would warp their memories even more
whats strange is that they waited til their 3rd child and named HIM after the high-school crush rather than calling the first-born marty, that wouldve been a nice twist in the alternate future
It was only one week. Marty went back in time for one week, so of coarse his mom and dad aren't gonna remember what the guy looked like after 30 years.
Hey i know this movie has lots of little things that if you sit there and really think about it are really fucked but hey its one hell of a movie!!.............top three fav movie for me
ReplyAmen to that.
HA! Can do attitude! Thats funny shit!
ReplyAw man I wish I could edit this page and answer everything and give this movie the honor it deserves.
ReplyDitto.
here, here!
Lots of things about this movie are confusing. Like Future Biff. He goes back in time and gives himself the alamanac which causes himself not to exist as he is in the future. Which causes him to dissapear (as seen in a deleted scene). So if he didn't exist in the future, how could he of gone back in time to give himself the almanac and make himself not exist?
Reply Hide All See All 3 RepliesThat's some serious s**t man.
That's future biff, which hasn't aged yet because the future is what you make of it.
It's just one of the things that makes Back to The Future so frikkin' awesome. It makes you think, instead of the dumb ass movies that put you to sleep now days.
If they really liked the name Marty so much, they would have chosen that name for their first kid, Dave. Would have been a funny joke if Marty's name was actually Dave, and Dave's Marty. If you really want to get technical, his parents would have inevitably been in a different situation when he was conceived, along with the other two siblings. Yet they all look the same, born in the exact same order. And if George really were more successful, why would he be living in the same house as before?
ReplyAnd who is to say that Marty as a rock star would necessarily be any better. Rock stars are known for the chaotic lifestyle.
Also, for all of this talk about changing the past, the Doc brought two lives into the world that never would have existed before. And they would consequently bring more people into the world. What if one of these kids/relatives was a murderer or something?
actually we aren't sure of their exact age, it could be in a different order, and their lived in that house but a better looking one. Its fate, dude, don't question it.
Date-rape machine! Fantastic!
Replysomeones head is floating in the gutter.
Anyone who has stored a car for a few months -let alone 70 years- knows you drain the gas out of it first. Gasoline turns into thick, gooey, useless varnish after just a few months of sitting around in the tank, fuel lines, and engine.
Reply Hide All See All 5 Repliesplus I think they actually mentioned IN THE MOVIE that he drained it

3 great movies from my childhood...though they got less "great" as the trilogy went on.
ReplyYet another article that made my laugh uncontrollable in my cube while my coworkers look on in concern at my sanity.
Hey, uh, Marty wasn't named after her old boyfriend. When he went back in time she thought his name was Calvin Klein because that was the name on his underwear.
ReplyI believe he told her that people call him "Marty". She continued to call him that cuz she's stupid :P Watch the scene again. I got quite a laugh from this article, but BttF is still my favorite set of movies ever.
give doc some credit. he warned marty while simultaneously creating the greatest line in the history of cinema...THE LIBYANS!!!
ReplyA quarter? Jesusfuck, how old do you think he IS? Clara looks like she's about thirty...
ReplyI thought Clara was like 45. Turns out she was 37 at the time of filming.
Either way, that places Doc at waaaaaay less than four times her age.
