Encyclopedia Brown

Encyclopedia Brown is the fictional hero of hundreds of children's mystery short stories, written by Donald J. Sobol since 1963. If you don't have time to read them all, here's how they go:

Just The Facts

  1. Encyclopedia's real name is Leroy, but he insists on being addressed as "Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective" before he'll talk to you.
  2. His father is chief of police, who would definitely lose his cred if it became widely known that his 10-year-old son was solving all the hard cases. But Leroy's no dummy; he knows that if he ever blabs, he'll sleep with the fishes.
  3. He also solves petty crimes for the neighborhood children as a private dick, charging 25 cents per day.

But enough about him...

...let's talk about Sally Kimball. Encyclopedia's assistant sleuth is "the prettiest girl in fifth grade, and the best fighter." So, if you're imagining something like this...

Not SallyKimball
