As much as I hate to admit it, many people love zombie movies. There are hundreds of these movies and they encompass many genres. Which makes zombies successful all-round movie stars worthy of our attention.

Just The Facts

  1. Zombies came into being through African voodoo magic, only to later make their way into our hearts.
  2. Zombie horrors have a long history and a huge fandom.
  3. People making zombie movies sure do love the word "dead" in the title, so that, in a conversation, we can never know whether we're talking about the same movie (the fact that plots are always the same not facilitating communication either).
  4. Zombies are freakin' awesome, man!

Cracked on zombies and zombie movies.

First off, some boring etymological stuff. The word zombie is of African origin (meaning "reanimated corpse" in voodoo cult), or is a Louisiana creole word meaning "phantom, ghost". The sense Sense "slow-witted person" is recorded from 1936.

Today, however, we know better than 1871 African people. Armed with knowledge of from the movies, we know that zombie means "a slow-witted reanimated ghost-like person"... or in other words "a groaning retarded undead motherf**ker who wants to eat your brains for no apparent reason".

Even Cracked.com has its modest contribution to short zombie movies - Going Green.
