What do you get when you cross a potentially dangerous sport with a board game?... Twister at grandma's house. Oh, and there's this thing called Chess Boxing somewhere in Europe

Chess Boxing involves alternating rounds of boxing and chess.
Chess Boxing was created from a cartoonist, Enki Bilal, who made the sport up.
"Made it up" meaning it would kind of be like someone starting a real life Quidditch tournament.

Chess Boxing was brought to life in 2001 by Dutch graphic novelist and current Chess Boxing champion, Iepe Rubingh. The original idea of the sport actually came from cartoonist, Enki Bilal.

The first World Championship of Chess Boxing was held in 2003 in Amsterdam, and is now part of the World Chess Boxing Organization whose motto is "Fighting is done in the ring and wars are waged on the board." Oh, they are so clever.

Chess Boxing, in it's simplist form, is a game where players play chess for a little while, then kick the shit out of eachother, then try to continue their game of chess. Repeat as needed.

The sport starts out with a round of chess, 4 minutes long. Each opponent has a total of 12 minutes on the chess timer for the entire match. After the 4 minutes, if no one has won yet, the chess board is taken away and they begin boxing. After 3 minutes of boxing, if no one has been declared a winner, they resume the chess game.

The match can last up to 11 rounds (6 rounds of chess and 5 rounds of boxing), but can end if there is a checkmate, if an opponent goes over the time limit, if an opponent gives up (or retires), if the referee decides a player cannot go on (in the boxing round), or if there is a KO. If none of these happen, meaning no one is knocked out and the chess match doesn't end, then the player with the most points in the boxing rounds win. If there is an equal score in boxing, the player with the black pieces win. A little racist if you ask us.
