Memes
Just The Facts
- Memes replace the complicated and time-consuming process of comedy with CTRL-C CTRL-V. Also kittens.
- Memes are incredibly powerful. If we could create an oncology meme, we could cure cancer. If there was a solar meme, we'd have free power.
- Instead we revived the career of Rick Astley and dubbed a fat kid into Star Wars.
Memes Help End Discrimination
Memes are a brave attempt to end discrimination based on wit, humor or creativity: instead of going to all the trouble of humor, everyone just agrees on what's funny and repeats it. It's like a vast inside joke, except everyone knows it so it's not "inside", and it's not funny so it's not a "joke." It's like the zen of anti-comedy.

ReplyMeme is rooted in Latin, means to replicate, You guys are obsessed with Memes, You rarley see the word "meme" anywhere except 30 times in every other Cracked Article, Im just sayin..I also find them annoying, when they go away, AND THEN COME BACK like someone thinks they are NEW or Fresh, I still get the LOLCATS and FAT naked CHICKS...
ReplyThat's generally because the lifespan of a Meme is as such:
1) Meme is created (usually 4chan)
2) Meme spreads across the internet, showing up on gaming forums and nerd sites
3) starts showing up on Digg, Fark, and trickles into Facebook
------------DEATH OF MEME BEGINS-------------
4) some cheap dick with e-fame on his mind and little creativity creates a site devoted to it.
6) people start linking to it in facebook - the flood begins
5) News paper picks up on it
6) People who have no idea what 4chan even is start using it
7) TV picks up on it
8) Meme turns into email forward fodder
9) People who don't even know what the internet is start using it
10) Sometime after seeing a T-Shirt in Wal-Mart using this meme, some b-tard asks himself: "Oh my god, what have I done?!"
Essentially from about point #5 on, the meme will become brand new to various groups of people, increasing the chance that you'll be exposed to rancid old-meme. If it's someone who isn't particularly internet savy, try to grimace and show pity - they know not what they do. On the other hand, if it's someone who *should* know better - either by their internet exposure, or the simple fact that they're trying to post it on sites listed in points 1 and 2, then it is perfectly permissible to do whatever it takes to make sure that individual never posts anything on the internet ever again.
