Cracked on Peanut Butter

The ancient Incans are the first culture known to have first taken stone to nut and created peanut paste, yet more proof they were an advanced and truly civilized people. (Setting that whole human sacrifice thing aside of course.)
In 1897 Doctor John H. Kellogg, the anti-sex, pro-health nut who would go on to invent Corn Flakes, was granted a patent for his process of creating "nut-butter". He and his brother fed it to their patients at their sanitarium, and eventually started the Sanitas Nut Company which supplied peanut butter to local grocery stores. Not nearly as tasty as it is today, their version of “nut butter” was made from steamed peanuts and was markedly lacking in anything that would stimulate their patients, like taste, salt, or sugar.

1904 was the St Louis World fair, and heralded the introduction of peanut butter to the rest of the world. An enterprising fellow named C.H. Sumner sold $705.11 of the treat at his concession stand that year, and the humble peanut’s career as a tasty spread was launched.
Types of Peanut Butter

Homemade peanut butter - cutting out the middle man in your addiction
NATURAL
This means no sugar, no additives, and none of that nasty trans fat doctors tell us will clog up our arteries faster than a super-sized Big Mac meal.
Natural peanut butter contains very few ingredients, usually just roasted peanuts and salt.
Because its ‘au naturel’ this type of peanut butter tends to separate, leaving a rather nasty pool of oil at the top of the jar when you open it and requiring a fair amount of stirring to blend it back together before eating it.
REGULAR
Regular peanut butter is most likely the type sitting in your cupboard right now. It is blended to prevent seperation, and in addition to roasted peanuts contains such delicious additions as sugar and the Devil's party dip, partially-hydrogenated oil.

Styles Of Peanut Butter
SMOOTH
Smooth as one of James Bond's pick up lines, this style of peanut butter has been creamed to whipped perfection. What it lacks in crunch it makes up for by not ripping chunks out of your bread as you make a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
CRUNCHY
For those of you who want a little 'tude in your food, crunchy style is the way to go. The peanuty goodness is enhanced with just enough crunch to let you know you're alive.
SUPER CRUNCHY
If this is your style, we imagine your name is Jack Bauer and you live your life in 60 minute increments. You like everything extreme, from your jet pack commute to the crunch in your sandwich spread of choice.

BACON
Bacon is another of those magical foods that taste so good, you just know its bad for you. When you combine it with peanut butter, you get a taste sensation that will make your mouth dance with joy even as your heart goes into cardiac arrest.
The heart attack platter - at least you'll die happy
BANANAS
Peanut Butter and Banana was Elvis' favourite sandwich. What else can we say? If it was good enough for the King of Rock and Roll, it's good enough for anyone.

MARSHMALLOW
Marshmallow is the second key ingredient in an American phenomenon with a pornographic name: The Fluffernutter sandwich. The first ingredient is, of course, peanut butter. Variations of the sandwich use either actual marshmallow or marshmallow creme, but all of them pair up the sugary confection with a healthy dose of peanut butter and call it god's gift to bread.

CHOCOLATE
Chocolate is also made from seeds, and it could be considered one of mankind’s greatest culinary creations. When these two are mixed, wonderful things happen, as demonstrated by those classic “You got chocolate on my peanut butter” ads for Reese’s Peanut butter cups. When consumed together, the angels sing and for a brief moment, the universe achieves perfect harmony.
