I just bought an ipod touch, and updated it with the latest software. However, after this a message came up saying the ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. After I restored the software the message came up again.

This is a constantly recurring problem, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on fixing this problem?

Many thanks.

Put it in DFU mode.

1)Plug into computer

2)Hold POWER and HOME for 10 seconds

3)Relese POWER and keep pressing HOME for a futher 7 seconds

4)Screen should stay black and itunes should say your ipod is in recovery mode, repeat 2-3 if failed (although its not)

5)Shift click on resore and select a fresh firmware file of your choice (preferrably what you currently have, but not necessary)

6) Ipod should restore and be fine

(If continues, download a different version of your firmware from the internet)

Thank you for the help!

Unfortunately, none of the buttons registered with the ipod, or with itunes. I tried assigning the ipod to a different drive path, and the computer wouldn't recognise it.

So, after trying virtually all the solutions the internet has to offer, I have come to the conclusion that it is bricked. I also tried to recharge the ipod and the battery status didn't ever appear on screen, and just stayed blank.

Back to the shop for a refund, methinks.

No problem. You are right, it probably is a technical fault, which would explain why it is completely un-recognisable to your computer, good luck with getting a refund.

Okay, the same thing just happened with my REPLACEMENT ipod touch.

Updated to latest software, stuck in restore mode loop, not recognised by computer. Completely bricked!

My computer must be where ipod's go to die.

I have never been so frustrated in my life. I'm going away to cry now.

It is most likely ascossicated with the drivers on your computer. Try installing LIBUSB (google it) and then try again, if that fails, borrow someone you know's laptop and restore using that.

Thanks for the advice again!

LIBUSB didn't work for me. I also tried installing it on two other computers that have itunes and it still is stuck in the restore mode loop.

I took it to the store, where none of their computers had itunes, despite the fact they sell ipods. I was then told that I might not be able to get a refund as the warranty is not covered for software updates/problems. I really don't know what to do now.

I didn't even get to use the ipod. I plugged it in to the computer straight out of the box, updated it with the latest firmware and it went into restore mode loop.

And now it has just happened with my THIRD replacement  ipod touch.

I will never buy another Apple product.

Hmmm what could be the common factor among these three ipods that have stopped working immediately after being plugged into your computer
