I am buying a sony vaio FW laptop, and will use it for gaming. My question is, which would be better Overall, and for gaming:

1) 2.2ghz core duo processor with 2mb L2 Cache and 800 MHz FSB, 4gb RAM, and ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 1GB dedicated video memory

2) 2.53ghz core duo processor with 3mb L2 Cache and 1066 MHz FSB, 2gb ram but with ATI MobilityRadeonHD4570 512MB

Thanks.

Better video card will avail you better gaming. the 4650 is a damn sight better than the 4570, I believe. The faster processor will be faster overall, but give you worse results for gaming.

Go for the first option.

Yeah, go with the first.  You wouldn't notice a big performance difference between a 2.2 and a 2.53 GHz processor but you will notice a difference with the better video card and having 4 GB of RAM compared to 2.

If it wasn't for gaming, I'd actually say get the faster processor and just upgrade the ram, since it's so cheap now. You'd be surprised what going from a 2.2 to a 2.53 can do, all other things being equal. But, again. better video card trumps the other minor differences for gaming. Especially since, if you're desperate down the road, the processor can possibly be upgraded (though it won't be easy); the video card almost certainly cannot.
