I finished reading last night. I love the new excerpts from Marconi's book, which I don't think were in the PP edition. Especially at the very end, I thought that capped off the whole thing really nicely. And the extra mythology stuff about Korrock really opened it up and made it a lot more epic in scope, that Dave and John are only a tiny part of this massive struggle.

Also, I don't know if all the edits finally paid off or I've just read the story so many times that it finally clicked in my head but all the early stuff ties in a lot better with the stories later in the book. The Shitload stuff seems to lead logically to the Shit Narnia stuff instead of feeling like two different stories. Especially with the truncated Krissy Lovelace story in the middle.

I approve of this book, Wong. You are allowed to be proud of it now.

As an aside, I didn't notice any, but was there anything cut out of the current editions that you really liked, but no longer fit?

I'd say that of every ten changes I loved nine of them.  A couple struck me as strange and took some of the wit out, like when Justin says "call me Shitload cos there's a shitload of us in here."  He says something not exactly the same now, something that didn't feel as good to me.  I also thought the video game parody in the mall was best in its original form; it's just overexplained now.

But no doubt some smart people, not least of them the author of the book, thought the changes were all for the better, and I'm probably just disagreeing because they're different to bits I already read.  The new version is great, and I'm proud to be on the fan list.

One of my favorite lines from the online version was inexplicably removed from the prologue.  Just as John was being strangled by the meat monster (if you haven't read it yet, you fucking heard me right. "meat monster"), I waited in giddy anticipation for his classic wit.  Why the hell did you remove the line "Dude, this is exactly what my horoscope said would happen today."?

The only thing I was remiss to see go was the whole "Johnny Strums Two-Cues" bit. I always loved the way the cops and Wong are talking about the dog and the body, and John just launches into this retarded discourse.

Same here, it's the only changed part where I've really missed the orginal so far.

I've finished "Book One" aka "They China Food" and I've loved all the changes and additions so far. But. The scene beside the dumpster where Dave acquires an envelope full of cash now omits the part where he explains away the enormous wound on the side of his face as missing his mouth with the straw of a takeaway soft drink. Sigh.

YES! That part totally got shortened. And was there no remorse for what happened to the kid afterwards since whoever was expecting that money never got it? I'm sure that kid got murdered! Plus I miss the Strummy 2 Cues thing too. I feel like John lost a lot of his randomness in this edition which was what i think made him so remarkable. he is still funny but I feel like John the way he was. I know Dave probably wants to tell us to shut up about it already but it's like getting to know someone for a while and really liking them and then meeting their twin and being disappointed they aren't as cool as their sibling.

Yeah, that poor guy was probably unable to go through with his drug deal.

I missed Strum Two-Cues as well.  Strum Two-Cues was awesome.
