...as part of a promotion contest for a game.  No, seriously.

Quote
Electronic Arts is asking Comic-Con goers to “sin to win” a dinner and “sinful night with two hot girls, a limo service, paparazzi and a chest full of booty.”

To enter the contest, conventioneers need to “commit acts of lust” by taking photos with the models working the Dante’s Inferno booth or any other booth babes at the show. Those photos then need to be uploaded to Twitter, Facebook or emailed to Electronic Arts.

The contest organizers have since released a heartfelt apology that apologizes to anyone who was "offended by their choice of wording" and refers to booth babes as "costumed promoters."

AAAAAAGH WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT

Does it have to be the girls in the booths this year, or can I just take some photos of the ones I have kidnapped in previous years?

Maybe I'm missing something here.  What, exactly, is wrong with taking pictures of women who are paid to dress scantily with full knowledge that, being a promotional event, hundreds or thousands of pictures of them are going to show up on the web?  Is it just because they called it an "act of lust"?

We created this promotion as part of our marketing efforts around the circle of Lust (one of the nine sins/circles of Hell). Each month we will be focusing on a new Circle of Hell. This month is Lust.

I'm eagerly anticipating what Wrath will be.

Hell, I've got Sloth nailed.

I'm pretty sure that Sloth would have Wrath nailed at the idea of women being treated as objects.

Wow so combine this with EA's fake religious protest at E3 and they are 0 for 2 with the Dante's Inferno viral marketing.

Really?  It's from the same team that made Dead Space.  They had a big panel about it at E3 and Game Informer did a big piece on it.

I love video games and all, but I really don't scour the gamer news sites so things like that easily go missed by people like me.

When I first read this thread, I knocked out a vitriolic open letter to the gaming industry, but the net connection I was on sucked and timed out partway through posting it.

Now I'm just intensely depressed at the whole thing.

Thanks a lot game industry. Mindlessly retarded fucking bullshit like this certainly helps your cause when you ask people to take you seriously. And it sure gives plenty of ammunition to those who are working towards games being treated the same as every other form of media when it comes to censorship; you retarded, juvenile little shitstains.

Man, just fuck those dudes. I hope Will Wright comes along and buries his foot right in their arses.

Did no one from EAs marketing division think that asking people to commit "acts of lust" with booth babes might get misinterpreted as asking them to commit sexual assault? Because when I read that first link it sounded like they wanted people to take pictures of them groping (or fake groping) the girls there. I did not think they meant this:

“Commit acts of lust” is simply a tongue-in-cheek way to say take pictures with costumed reps.

Don't worry Ben, the guys at EA are well aware that gamers are some of the most socially intelligent people out there and would never misinterpret a vague directive as permission to commit sexual assualt.
