Odd. I read this on my cell phone news earlier today and thought it was a completely stupid machine that would hardly be marketable beyond theme parks or some airports. Still, I'm kinda impressed at Peach Fanta.

Personally, being a type 1 diabetic, the prospect of more than one flavor of diet soda being available in a vending machine is very exciting.

That's why it's so amazing.  It's able to make any soft drink you want, even the ones nobody wants.

Reading the title, I thought this was a Dane Cook-related thread.

The actual subject is marginally better.

I enjoyed the debate about ice going on in the comments section much more than the video. I had no idea that people felt so passionately about it.

You may want the machine, but what's really going to suck is the array of wire shelves, plastic tubing and about seventy friggin' boxes of different syrups that you'll need to hook up somewhere behind it.

Anyone who thinks this is something worth having has never worked in the back of any restaurant, anywhere.

I figured you would only need the boxes for the basic sodas, and the flavors would be added separately via flavored syrups.  How else would they be able to offer so many different flavors that otherwise don't exist (like Orange Diet Coke)?

Those flavored syrups would also require boxes, but I see your point. Okay, so reduce seventy to...oh, let's say thirty or so.

I'm sure that can still be made more efficient, though.  For example, there's absolutely no difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero, so there can be one box instead of two.  And if we make that box Caffeine Free as well, and inject caffeine separately through a small vial, then we're getting somewhere.  And you don't even need a box for Fanta, because nobody will ever order it.

To be human is to keep rattling the bars of the cage of existence, hollering, "What's it for?"

My kids attempted to live on Fanta in NZ, hence the trail of orange splotched carpets we left behind us. My daughter only gave it up when she found out about the Nazi connection. And the youngest boy still asks for it when we go out, even though Canadian Fanta tastes nothing like it's Kiwi cousin.
So, some people still drink it, although I gotta say the North American stuff is unreasonably foul, for some reason.

Wow. Okay, I could get into that.

Which doesn't change the fact, however, that it's a computerized machine filled with syrup, and it's mostly likely going to be serviced on a daily basis by the same 17-year-olds who can't get your burger order right. Unless the idiot-proofing is amazing, it could wind up being just another headline-grabbing nine-day wonder.

But then again, those Redbox DVD-rental machines seem to be doing just fine, even though they're primarily in Walmarts. Technology continues to astound me.
