Le Pétomane

Quote
Le Pétomane was the stage name of the French professional farter and entertainer Joseph Pujol (June 1, 1857 - 1945). He was famous for his remarkable control of the abdominal muscles, which enabled him to fart at will.

...

In the following decade Pujol tried to 'refine' and make his acts 'gentler'; one of his favourite numbers became a rhyme about a farm which he himself composed, and which he punctuated with the usual anal renditions of the animals' sounds. The climax of his act however involved him farting his impression of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

Is there any greater tragedy than the fact that they didn't have audio/visual recording devices back then?

I noticed that "professional farter" was linked in your article, which leads to the Flatulist page.  It seems Le Pétomane has been an inspiration to an entire generation of modern flatulists one guy: Mr. Methane.

Hey, Mr. Methane has a website!

Someone typed up a long page featuring minor characters that appeared in the comic strip Peanuts. some of them appeared only once or twice 40 years ago and some were only mentioned by name, they were never even drawn.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatulence_humor

Quote
In the movie Down Periscope, Buckman (the cook) farts very loudly. The sonar operator on the Orlando reported he heard what sounded like "an explosion". During the remainder of the scene there are various shots of the crew of the U. S. S. Stingray as the fart passes them.

***

In the episode of The Mighty B! "Toot Toot", Bessie farts in a Honeybee, therefore causing humor.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but Shitdick's goat sex suggestion made it into Friday's Top Picks and oball's incredible flatulist made it into today. Everything else that's been suggested is pretty fantastic and will be showing up in the days ahead.

You guys are finding stuff I couldn't've hoped to think of on a good day, so thanks a lot for that. It helps to have some more imaginative minds coming up these links.

What I'm trying to say is keeping doing what you're doing so I can continue to be lazy and not get my mouse all gunked up with Dorito powder.

Being a nerd who has spent countless hours crawling the backwater, forgotten depths of Wikipedia, I've got quite a few bizarre links that I've found.  Here are a few...

I'll see if I can find some more of those, and post them later.

I knew that stunt men did the scenes in movies that actors couldn't do. I didn't know that there were dongs out there that also rose to the occasion. Please resist the urge to put this on your resume.

We were talking about Shark Week, and how gay Hammerhead sharks are on IRC, which prompted me to looked up the Wikipedia entry for Flipper.

This is not what I expected.

Quote
One "stunt" dolphin (one of several used in the film) is speared on screen in the peduncle. This an actual spear-gunning of a live dolphin, not a special effect, which the producers could not afford.

The unnamed dolphin survived this abuse. Producer Ivan Tors gave it to Dr. John C. Lilly. "It wouldn't come near us," Lilly later said. "I gave it 100 micrograms of LSD, and it was all over us."

Yeah. Flipper was tripping balls.

From the article:

"However, a stunt cock seldom performs dangerous acts on film."

Am I the only one that imagined a cock jumping through the glass of a window 30 stories above the city street, just barely escaping the ensuing wall of fire?

Haha.  That made me think of the wikipedia article on "Real life" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_life_(reality)

Also, the article on "Philosophical Zombie" is pretty cool (though I think I mostly just like the fact that somebody came up with something called a Philosophical Zombie) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical_zombie

From the article:

"When Inquirer journalist Frank Brookhouser omitted the letter "u" in reporting a 1952 Philadelphia voter registration under the 35-letter surname, Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff's prompt correction was carried by Time..."

Are you fucking kidding? He actually takes the time to spellcheck that fucking monstrosity?
