UPDATE: The new and improved Topics Page section has been launched. You no longer have to request pages here, or at all. All you have to do is go to our Topics Page index page HERE, and either pick up topics from the Most Wanted list, or search the topic you want in the search box and follow the prompts.

Three other things that have changed, or become automated:

1. You can own only one unpublished topics page at a time.

2. Once you become the owner of a topic, you have 7 days to complete and publish it. If you do not meet the requirements and publish the page, it will become available for other editors to claim.

3. We understand that sometimes you may need a little more time. If you'd like to give yourself a second chance, you are allowed to become the editor of the same topic but the deadline will be 3 days. If you do not publish it within 3 days, you will not be able to be the editor of the topic again. Ever. The worst thing that can happen to this project is people snap up prime topics and then sit on empty pages forever.

One note for people with pending pages: Through our manual process, we have allowed users to own more than one page.  If these users try to adopt or create another page, they will have to give up all of their pending pages.

What is a Cracked Topic Page?

Well, it's sort of a more entertaining and readable and Cracked-ish Wikipedia. Here's an example of a fully fleshed out topics page:

http://www.cracked.com/topic/45-steven-seagal/

Here's an example of the bare minimum:

http://www.cracked.com/topic/116-david-caruso/

Both of those articles are perfectly acceptable Topics Pages, and in fact are our two most popular pages.

The minimum we require is that your page have at least 1 image that sums up the topic, 3 facts (humorous observations in bullet point form),  1 link to something about the subject and a summary paragraph. We're still in Beta right now, but we've instituted a weekly contest that you can read about here.

We have a private forum for Topic Page editors to exchange tips and such. Going forward we will be featuring our favorite topic page of the week on the front page of the site directly beside Dan O'Brien's weekly column, and you will be paid $50 for your trouble.

Got an idea for a Cracked Topics Page? Want to be the editor of one? Reply here and explain why you're the man/woman for the job. It can be on any subject. If you have the requirements listed above filled in within 14 days, the page is yours.

Here's a list of the ones that are already taken and up on the site:

http://www.cracked.com/topic/255-cracked-topics-pages/

And here's a list of the up for grabs pages, as well as the pending pages that need to be completed within the next 7 days.

If it pleases the court, I would like to do a page dedicated to gambling and/or poker.  I feel I would be a great addition to the team, because I currently access Cracked from the public library due to losing my life savings during a three-hour bender at the Luxor.  I can be a shining non-example to others.

I guess I have this Unsolicited Advice post, as well.

If possible, I would like to be the editor for a Cracked Topics page on Steven Seagal.  I wrote about Seagal in my first two Cracked articles, and I've seen every one of his films.  I'm also up on the latest in Seagal news.  For example, he's going to play a Russian novelist in his next movie, he has a role in an upcoming horror film where he'll be fighting vampires, and A&E is working on a reality TV show about his secondary career in law enforcement.   Seriously.

I've always been a fan of the HB threads on US politics. So I'd suggest that as a topic, or break it down in to subcategories ie: Obama Administration, Congressional Legislation, etc.
Granted it doesn't bring the funny, but hey, could be good.
As for editing, I'd be happy to give it a whirl, but from what I've seen, I may have circles run around me.

I am over qualified to write about the Wheel of Time series. If you decide to create one, I'll write it for you. There's 11 million readers in the US alone, so that's a pretty sizable base of potential readers.

I would also be interested in Battlestar Galactica or Heroes.

I will do anything for money and anything twice for attention. I don't know what this is and I don't care. Do you need a movie guy in some way? I'll assume that one's all taken; how about a comic book guy? Animation guy? Webcomics guy? I wouldn't make an awesome video game guy but fuck, I could try. Is there a way to do this entirely about Batman? What if I gave you five dollars?

You'd do me an honor if you were to make a Comic Books topic and make me the editor.  You'd do yourself a favor by this because:

1. I know a lot about comics.  (As evidenced by my comic book article, as well as my other comic book pitches.)

2. I know a lot about the Cracked take on comic books.  (Even before I came a regular reader of the site I would come running eagerly if I heard that there had been a new comics article posted.  Something about the Cracked voice and comics just resounded with me.)

3. I keep up with all the latest comic book happenings.  For example, did you know:

- that in the first issue of Secret Invasion: Dark Reign, Namor, Prince of Atlantis is drawn to resemble a less majestic version of Joe Pesci?

- that DC recently announced the cancellation of Birds of Prey, Blue Beetle, and Manhunter, proving that there's nothing DC hates more than money and female readers?

- that for some reason, there is going to be a Darkhawk series?

4. I am very handsome, and would be willing to introduce you to one of the dozens of nubile lady-types that cater to my every whim.

Barring that, another topic I'm interested in would be Internet Stupidity, though perhaps that's too broad a subject for consideration.  Anything along those lines would be fantastic, though.

I would like to see a law topics page. UK, US, Canadian, Aussie, elsewhere--whatever. Just a place to go to read about new, old, and forthcoming legal issues. I have a bit of a background in pre-law studies and a fair amount of free time--as well as an unhealthy fixation on stupidity in law--but really I'd just like the page to exist. On the very remote chance there's no one more qualified or interested in such a topic, I'd like to edit it.

There are a few things I would be interested in doing, but I don't know if they're popular enough. Do people think that there is enough to be said about Dexter to warrant a topic page? Because goddamn, I could talk about that shit for days (as could Sephira, no doubt).

Also, it would probably be quite a big topic, but I'm very very interested in horror films. I watch them more than I probably do most other films genres combined, studied them fairly exhaustively at film school and try to keep up with new releases as much as possible. I can talk about anything from Argento's solid-gone-gonzo period to the painfully self-aware 90's Scream generation, as well as cult classics like, say, the Aussie boar-sploitation romp Razorback or Cronenberg's body-horror squirmfests. Obviously, a lot of people will be interested in it and it might be too wide a subject for one person to handle, but even if it's broken up I would love to be involved in editing a segment.

If there were some need for a Topic page on Computer Security or Governmental/Private Intelligence Collection (although I can't imagine why there would be) I have 16+ years of experience in these areas and have written about them already.

Those are pretty niche topics but there really is no end to my ability to blather on about abundance issues, U.S. Title Code, oversight, and the differences between U.S. persons vice U.S. citizens etc...

Would it be funny? Not a chance. I can bore the shit out of people for months with it though.

I have massive quantities of time, a permissive work environment, the ability to hit the spell check button at least 50% of the time prior to posting, and the resources to do the research required.

Additionally if any cares about North Korea at all I have spent a very long time peering over that border and into their culture/politics.

I'd like to do a topic on advertising. I did those two articles on the subject, and I know the cracked blog has a ton of posts on the subject. I'm not sure if it's a proper topic or not.

I would like to do a topic page on the bizarre career of Warrior (formerly known as the Ultimate Warrior of WWF reknowned).

Well wrestling isn't a popular topic around the forums, the crazy lives of pseudo-famous people has been well documented time and time again. I think Warrior's career is definitely up there for nuttiness, and would love an opportunity to write something about this childhood idol of mine.

After seeing the initial topics and the introduction thread, I have a better idea of what you are looking for.  I would like to change my request to a page dedicated to all things Simpsons.  I have been obsessively watching the show since it was a short on The Tracey Ullman Show, and I still watch the syndicated reruns pretty much every single day.

I'm not sure if this would be too broad a topic, but I'd be interested in editing a topic page on music videos.  I could link to upcoming videos and maybe write some commentary on ridiculous or awesome classic videos.  I could also follow the direction videos take as the music industry grapples for a foothold in the digital world, like the music video contests bands like The Decemberists and Radiohead have done.

Would The Karate Kid be too narrow a focus?

Just throwing it out there, I'm still not entirely sure what this "Cracked Topics Page" thing really entails, in terms of what I would need to put up there without treating it like a glorified blog, which I'm afraid is what I would skew into.

But I suppose it could include various tidbits about the various actors from within Karate Kid, such as William "Don't Call Me Billy" Zabka and the work in short films he's done, one of which garnered him an Oscar nomination.  Or Chad "The Apple Fell Far" McQueen, and the dumpster diving he's probably been up to.

And, of course, Macchio himself, and...um...well, maybe he's helping out McQueen with that dumpster diving when he's not popping up randomly on Entourage.
