Presenting the Mantis Shrimp:

Highly carnivorous, highly intelligent shrimp like creatures that end up in seawater aquariums as stowaways when buying 'living' stones (e.g. stones with sea life on it). Best indication that you have one in your aquarium is when all of your expensive fish start disappearing one after the other. And to add to the fun they also make a characteristic popping sound with their pincher's, resembling the sound of breaking glass. And it is strong enough to back this threat up, breaking through the aquarium glass if it wants to.

So not only will it cost your a fortune in livestock, it will also make you fear water damage to your furniture. Of course there are always people who keep these things as pets.

Here's one that I took when I was in St. Petersburg during a Phytoplankton conference.   It was really huge.

Please tell me that's not actual size. Because I'm pretty sure it could take me in a fight.

It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.

I'm more curious about why you were snorkeling in hammer pants.

I was taking the picture, the dude in the shot was the captain of the boat and since it was well within his power to leave me floating in the red sea i thought it wisest not to make fun of his wardrobe.

Not convinced that its a Cestum veneris, they seem more ribbon like and this was definitely tubular.

I'm fairly certain that was the alien race from "The Abyss" trying to make contact with you. Where's Ed Harris when you need him?

Tibetan Sand Fox Really nothing special beyond the fact that it is one smug looking mother fucker.

Why is it that every picture I find of these things look like its eyes have been photoshopped?
