I don't want to have to cap the loan amounts.  If somebody objects to a recipient then we won't go forward until we've heard their complaint or whatever.

$700 now.

I guess if we get... three votes on a recipient we'll do it?  Like somebody suggests one and then if it gets seconded and thirded we'll do it?

I can't think of how else to decide.

That sounds good. My payday is Wednesday so I'll try out this new-fangled "PayPal" thing then.

I threw in £51.88. I don't mind where it goes, but Technohawk's man seems like a pretty decent start.

Just 'cause TH sucks his cock doesn't mean he's his "man"!

Sorry for the double post but to try to avoid arguments from delaying us all doing good perhaps we should set up a thread for people to suggest where donations go that stays open for 1 week, we set a number for a suggestion to become quorate (say, 3 suggestions of the same business, or just the top 3 suggestions) and then another thread gets set up with a poll with the top 3 suggestions to be voted on. We split the money based on the poll (maybe 60%, 25% 15%). Or am I just complicating things too much?

There's also the question of who gets to vote. I've said I'll put money in, but until I actually do it I could just be talking out of my arse, but once I've put the money in I, personally, am happy to put it to some sort of vote, even with people who have not made (or been able to make) a donation getting a vote. Again I may be complicating things too much (because honestly I don't mind my money going to help anyone listed on Kiva, really.)

For what it's worth if nobody else has the time I'm happy to collate the suggestions from the "suggestions" thread and then create a "poll" thread however people decide to do it. As long as we agree the rules beforehand it's not as if I can fudge the results seeing as the original data will be available on the forum for everyone to see.

The main problem with your idea boon is that a lot of loans get funded within a day or two.  The two cybercafe groups both raised the second half of their request (which was about 700 bucks for each of them) in a couple of hours.

How about this? Once you're money's in, it's in. If you want to retain control, make your own account and your own loans. Let's make a thread for nominations, and then trust Wong to go, "Yeah, that's cool," and click where appropriate.

How does that sound?

Sounds fine to me. Honestly, I'm not too fussed where my money goes, I trust that Kiva has done the legwork already on which are viable and worthy. As far as I'm concerned, one borrower is as good as another.

Sounds fine to me, I was just trying to make sure there weren't any squabbles about the whole thing. If a show of hands is all that's required then I'm good to go.

If we're waiting on an official third for Technohawk's pharmacist guy, consider me it.

It lists that he still needs $450.

Otherwise, I'm with Kathana. I trust Kiva's legwork, and trust Wong as ExecutorGuy, so...whichever.

That's good by me.

Would it be okay to sticky this thread?

Out of vain curiosity, what's the chance of posting an updated total on the donation warchest in the morning?

Several people have already said what I was going to, so I'll go one step further; I think everybody here trusts Dave's judgement (the final decisions on the bricks are why I'm happy letting others decide what to do with my donation), so what if Dave just picks from our nominations, checks that there are no serious objections (or doubts over authenticity) and then goes ahead with it.  It's streamlined, and if anybody actually cared which specific people we loan to they wouldn't have / won't chip in.

Also, a couple of nominations:

This guy wants to buy piglets - small scale livestock operations like that can be profitable overall while still having cash flow problems (pigs selfishly don't grow overnight).  He's not going to eat all the pigs himself, so everybody wins.

This lady wants to expand her frozen fish business.  Although it is just one person's business, it's the sort of thing that would give the community the ability to store fish, so again everybody wins.
