Ever since somebody suggested it I can't get Bruce Campbell out of my head as Marconi.  And Coscarelli has worked with him before.  Dare we hope?

I always thought for some reason John Hurt when I thought of Dr. Marconi.

I doubt the personality but just the looks I always envisioned John to either look like a skinny Jeff Bridges, or Chad Kroeger(lead singer of nickel back). Neil Patrick Harris with a goatee and long hair?

Voice of Korrok..how bout bout the voice of Glados from portal? Doing a very kiddish presentation.

For dave I can see James Marsden if he gained a little weight.

I'm having a tough time picturing anyone as John and Dave, but two people who absolutely jumped into my head for two particular characters:

Det. Freeman/Appleton - Charles S. Dutton (though Keith David would kick ass, too)
Marconi - Malcolm McDowell

I have no idea why, but McDowell immediately popped into my head the moment Marconi showed up in the book.

If you ignore the fact that he's 42, I think Eddie McClintock could pull off a good John.  If you've ever watched Warehouse 13, you know he does the "immature, joke-cracking, not-terribly-competent supernatural investigator" thing well.  Plus, he's pretty buff, which we know is a requirement for anyone playing John.

I also think that whoever plays Dave should also be the voice of Korrok, the same way Captain Hook is traditionally played by the same actor that plays the kids' father.  Since Korrok is essentially the evil force in Dave's life, and there are hints that many of the events in JDATE are in David's head in some way, it would make for a pretty cool connection, methinks.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Edward James Olmos. Let's leave it at that.

Dan O'Brien as John. Think of it: ludicrous embellishment, frank descriptions of his sexuality/sexual organ? Dead-on.

In the grand scheme of things it would have been wise for you not to have read this.

While reading my new copy earlier i was imagining Michael Emerson (Ben Linus from Lost, or Zep Hindle from Saw) as Robert North. His face basically perfectly matches the description from the book. Although Robert North was meant to be in this thirties I always imagined him as looking older.

I'd just like to throw it out there, whoever first mentioned Felecia Day for Amy is absolutely dead on.  As soon as I started reading the parts with Amy, I couldn't think of anyone else.  She'd be perfect.  I mean, absolutely perfect.

I had to Wikipedia her, and now I have to agree too, if only because she's from my hometown.

I'm not sure why but I always imagined Samuel L. Jackson as Morgan Freeman. He would be perfect for the role if it wasn't for him being so recognizable. Or maybe that would be good too, just showing how much of a dumbass Dave can be about names.

Also agree with Felicia Day as Amy.

I always somehow pictured Forest Whitaker as Morgan Freeman. Bruce Campbell as Marconi is absolutely genius, and must be made to happen.

If he weren't so old, I'd say that Reggie Bannister (who played Reggie in the Phantasm films) would make a pretty good John Cheese. John and Dave are really hard to cast, though, at least in any way that satisfies the characters in my mind. They need to understand the characters, but I can't really picture either Dave or John as stereotypical hollywood actors, appearance wise.

I can't believe this is under debate!
Dave is SO Seth Rogan.
James Franco IS John.

I mean i think Pineapple Express can be considered their audition for JDatE.

Amy is Maria Thayer. ( From Accepted.)
No one else ... not even Willow could play her only because she's too old.
The Following are negotiable:
Robert North is Jeff Goldblum. Who looks more stork-like than him? PLus he is a great actor.
Fred Durst guy is Fred Durst ( cuz what else is he doing? NOTHING!)
Korrok is just a voice. The rest of him is gonna have to be CGI. Voice... Jack Black I guess. It doesnt matter to me.
Morgan Freeman Cop... Morgan Freeman.
Big Jim - Fresh Face
Fred Chu- Fresh Face
Jennifer Lopez - Kim kardashian... who else has the ass people? Plus the name will get JDatE more funding.
Plus Plus it's a bit part. who gives a shit?
Justinmonster- Aaron Carter.... cuz i want to see him blow up.
John's Band played by Weezer or The Killers
Chappelle Needs TO PLAY THE JAMAICAN... no one else could do a half pirate, half irish jamaican accent.

I always thought of Donnie Darko esque Jake Gyllenhaal as Dave. He does bizarre/creepy very well.

And fucking FELICIA DAY AS AMY! So amazing I might throw up a little from the excitement. Personality and looks. She's weird, but once you get used to her you like her a lot.

John...hmm...he's a hard face to place. Someone earlier said Ryan Reynolds...I think I could see that. Loser him up a little and I think he could work pretty well...

Yeah, Felicia Day as Amy would be fantastic, and Michael Emerson as Robert North is a pretty good suggestion as well.

I think James Franco could maybe be an okay John, but I think Seth Rogan is too much of a stereotypical 'funny fat guy' to play Dave. Dave's funny, and kind of incompetent, sure, but I don't think he could do the serious, depressed, troubled side of Dave properly. Just my opinion.

I haven't, no. But from the previews, he still seemed to be more over the top ridiculous than I picture Dave.
