Bruce Spence as Robert North. He was the Trainman from Matrix 3, the weird ass looking alien from Revenge of the Sith, and he's just a genuinely creepy looking dude.

Okay, so a thought came to me the other day.  I don't know about the rest of the cast.  I know he's a little too old.  But for fuck's sake:

John Cheese, ladies and gentlemen.

Just finished up watching Phantasm for the first time in years and I really think that Don Coscarelli is totally the right guy for the job.

Anyway after seeing the Pineapple Express trailer I think Seth Rogan and James Franco could do a good job as Dave and John.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Robert Marley

William Devane as Doc Marconi

Katherine Isabelle as Amy

Saul Rubinek as Arnie

Keith David as Det. Freeman

maybe with some Coscarelli cameos with Bruce Campbell as Drake and Reggie Bannister as Freemans partner

I like Mia Kirshner for Shelly Morris, maybe a bulked up Jake Busey as Big Jim

Yes yes, 1000 times yes!

But instead, I wanna play Dave... or maybe John... i could cockslap many...

I always pictured Dave as Edward Norton, like Edward Norton in Fight Club

Amy: Kirsten Dunst [Spiderman]
Shitload: Jason Mewes [Jay and Silent Bob]
Jennifer Lopez: Rosario Dawson [Clerks II]
John: Tyler Labine [Reaper]

Robert Marley: uhh...Roger Cross? [24]
Officer Drake: Bruce Campbell [Evil Dead]
Officer Appleton: Keith David [Barber Shop]

That's all I have.

I was recently struck by the revelation that Dave must be played by Nicholas Brendan, and screw the age difference. They're supposed to be college dropouts going nowhere with their lives, and making them 30 instead of 25 will only emphasize that.

Oh, shit.  Atlantic is right.

Dave can't be anybody BUT Edward Norton.

He'd need to pack on a few pounds, as well as pack some fudge, to prepare for the role.

And seriously?  Nobody thought of Johnny Knoxville for Cheese?

Just think of how awesome a Norton/Knoxville duo would be.

Hehehe.

Duo.

Guys, Edward Norton is like a billion years old.  John and Dave are supposed to be in their 20's.

Even Johnny Knoxville seems a little old for the part of John.

I've only seen her mentioned once for the role of Amy in this thread and that blows my mind, but.

Guys. Seriously.

Felicia Day.

Also, a lot of people seem to like the idea of Seth Rogen as Dave but...he's way too soft. He's a walking teddy bear. I don't see it at all.

If it weren't a little ridiculous-- the guy's tiny-- I'd support Seth Green in the role instead. He'd be the perfect straight man for John; he's also like, naturally full of cynicism and irony anyway. I think he could still pull off the mid-twenties look, too.

Someone at the start of the thread suggested Shia LeBouf as Shitload and I think that is PERFECT. Maybe just because I want to see Shia LeBouf get shot several times and also explode, but still.

And although I despise Ashton Kutcher, I have to admit he's who I imagine during John's more frantic moments.

Good point.

We'll be sure to turn them down at auditions.

Guys, Edward Norton is like a billion years old.  John and Dave are supposed to be in their 20's.

Also, while he's a good actor, Ed Norton's notorious for insisting on rewriting half of his character's dialogue if the fancy strikes him.  If/when Coscarelli gets this thing made, he's going to have a hard enough time keeping Hollywood from violating the book as it is:

"Can we make Dave Jewish?  We think he'd work better with our demographics if he's Jewish."
"Nobody's going to understand that Korrok replaced Dave with a doppelganger -- the producers think he should instead replace Dave and John with a creature that shapeshifts between the two of them."
"So wait, why is Dave interested in Amy if he's gay and why would she be interested in him if he's fat?"
"Could John and Dave smoke the Soy Sauce, instead?  Because my sister's on anti-depressants and she says she sees them crawling around and if that happens to other people it could just freak them out to see it in the movie."
...and so on.

Sometimes Norton can make that work, sometimes he can't, but most of the time the studio won't let you do anything about it if you don't like it.

I don't know why the hell nobody has thought of this before. When I first read JDatE and David made mention of Detective "Morgan Freeman," who actually looked like another black actor, I immediately thought of Reginald VelJohnson.

That's right, Carl from Family Matters. He's done the family man cop who just wants a routine cop job, maybe stop a robbery now and then to get some recognition, solve the normal burglary type of crime, that sort of thing. In Die Hard he also did the desk job cop who's been pulled into something way over his head but he can use it to prove himself. And he's a little under 60 now but doesn't really look it yet. He's perfect.

And oh, yeah. Matt L. Jones as Justin/Shitload. The guy who plays Badger on Breaking Bad. He was in some deodorant commercial or another too.

If you watch Breaking Bad, just imagine him saying "That's a hella pretty dog, yo," and tell me that he is not Justin. I fucking dare you.

Whenever I think of Dr. Marconi, my mind draws up a picture of James Lipton from Inside the Actor's Studio. Am I alone in that? Yes? Okay, continue.
