Assuming there's no limits on the stars who you could cast (this is unrealistic of course), who would you cast in the major roles of the movie?

Though I envisioned John as a skinny dude, I think you couldn't go wrong with Jack Black.  He's just the right mix of spastic energy and slightly retarded logic.

I hadn't thought of Jack Black, but I like it.

My previous hope for John was Brad Pitt. I always imagine John in a very Tyler Durden sense with the crazy laugh and such.

Completely seriously, Eminem as John. I think he could pull off the "crazy, funny white trash" thing perfectly.

Is Bruce Willis too old to be Dave? Because Dave is supposed to be a normal guy in an impossible situation, and no one does that better than Bruce Willis.

Other thoughts:

John: Aggressive and slightly ridiculous. I pick Harrison Ford or maybe Vin Diesel.
Shitload: Hugo Weaving. He can add the right touch of seriousness to a role which otherwise risks degenerating into slapstick.
Korrok: a CGI monstrosity voiced by, uh, I dunno. Someone with a really squeaky yet at the same time terrifying voice, because that would be awesome.
Dr. Marconi: Chow Yun Fat. He's got the screen presence for it. But the serious Chow Yun Fat, not the martial arts Chow Yun Fat.

...Gosh, that was fun.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: Natalie Portman as Amy and Jennifer Lopez as Jennifer Lopez.

Nick Nolte as Dave and Gary Busey as John. I know they're both way too old, but goddamn those two would be funny. Nick Nolte would constantly be flabbergasted at the idiocy around him and Busey would be whipping out his junk for no reason at all.

That's how I choose to envision this movie.

I have this problem with really well known actors playing book roles because I already have this idea in my head about who they are and how they act, when I'd prefer less known actors that we don't already have expectations about.

I picture Dave as progressively heavier. So if Jim Sturgis could put on some wait and master a midwestern accent, he'd be great.

Michael Weston (the cop from Garden State) as John. Or Joe Anderson.

Rachel Bilson could make a good Amy.

I second Chow Yun Fat as Marconi for reasons I can barely express...he just fits, even if he doesn't look like his last name should be Marconi.

Nikki Reed as Jennifer Lopez.

John and Dave are in their mid-twenties, and Shitload is even younger.

I would prefer unknowns in almost every part, however: there is one person, and one person alone in the entire universe who can play Amy:

That's right.  Alyson Hannigan circa 1999.  Unfortunately, she may be about ten years too old for the role at this point.

Although...

It looks like two dolphins fucking to me.

Personally I want to see Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the leads.

Matt Stone as David and Trey Parker as John.

They've got the buddy chemistry, the insane worldview to make it believable, and the body types for the roles.

I picture Dave as being like the guy from hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy who played arthur dent. Passive agressive, kind of a dick, slightly chubby, fits him to a tee imo. wonder if he can nix the british accent though..
Kari Byron from mythbusters would make a great Amy since hannigan has aged past the role. Kari seems like she'd have to get rid of that beloved california tan though. if Kari's a little too busty, she could also play John's girlfriend that he was in the denny's with.

I IMDB'd it, and Kari Byron and Alyson Hannigan are the same age.  They're both 34.  Amy is supposed to be more like 19 or 20, and I can't think of any cute redheads that age.  I'll cast my vote with an unknown, then.

However, considering who is directing, there is a real chance we could get Bruce Campbell.  Uncle Drake, perhaps?

You guys know that they have hair dye and wigs right?  Besides the fact that the hair color of the female lead isn't really crucial to the plot.

I'm not gullible, you know.  "Hair-dye"?  Yeah right.  You probably think that they use "fake blood" in movies instead of actually injuring the actors.

Voice of Korrok = Christopher Walken

The Shadow People = Wesley Snipes

Shitload = Mark Hamill

John = As much as I dislike the idea, Jack Black might work

The Chainsaw = A Stihl (Black & Decker understudy)

Dave = Edward Norton, if he can pull off being fifteen years younger.

Walken as the Voice of Korrok? Hell yes. Who plays the Large Man? My vote is for George Wendt. I don't know why, it just seems right. I'd like to see Lewis Black somewhere in this, but I honestly have no clue who he would play, and simply wedging celebrities into a movie is a bad decision.

Here would be my picks:

John Cheese - Ryan Reynolds:

He's a bit of a pretty boy, but from previous movies we know he can act pretty insane and could pull off the role.  Plus, isn't John supposed to be somewhat attractive anyway?  Seems like a good fit.

David Wong - Colin Hanks:

Pretty good actor, and can look plain enough to actually play Dave well.

Amy Sullivan - Lizzy Caplan:

She's cute, she has a small frame - come on, she's the perfect Amy.

I'll come back later with more of the minor characters.  However, Bruce Campbell should definitely either play Marconi, or they should somehow fit Vance Falconer into this movie so he can play him.
