It was all supposed to come online today but the programs themselves have been delayed. No real time frame. From an interview I hear, they're going to release them when they're ready, aiming for once a month. The dungeon and dragon magazines on the site are supposed to be updated with new content every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They won't start charging a monthly fee until most of the stuff is online so hopefully, we'll be able to try that stuff out, but it's still looking like we're going to be putting off an online pwot D&D game for a few months unless there's an alternative. That Fantasy Grounds thing looks nice but fuck if I'm paying 30 bucks to use it.

I hear Open RPG is pretty good for this sort of thing.

Ok, I just bought the books and I definitly want to play this game.  I vote we wait 'till Wizard's online service is up, though.  We know that that will cater to 4.0.

You don't suppose they're going to try and charge for the individual models, do you? Or distribute them in random virtual booster packs? 'Cause that would be a deal breaker for me.

Also, I'm totally down for a PWOT game. It'll help me unwind after a long day of base jump sword fighting.

Why do you need to play with official models? Why can't you play however you played for the last edition, with random figures, bits of paper, model-less gameplay, whatever floats your boat/wallet?

I think it's just that if you want a specific model and have to obtain it via random boosters, it's a pain in the ass.

Personally I favor Reaper minis. Their lines are fantastic and cover pretty much anything you could possibly want.

He's referring to the Game Table, which is the computer software designed to replicate a real gaming table. It comes with quite a few models but they'll also be coming up with new ones as, you know, new books come out. The way it sounds now though, you will have to pay for the new models in virtual booster packs. You don't need to play with official models in real life unless you're playing at their official tournaments.

Oh, virtual. Now I see.

In any event, using random boosters (whether virtual or real) is a stupid marketing tool to force fans to buy tons of crap they don't want.

Alright. So if we want to do this thing, I've found some tools. This place has all the programs we would need. Maptools is a game table client that lets you roll dice and move tokens and all the shit we would need. It has a chat program but it's text, so if we wanted to actually talk, we'd have to use Skype or whatever. That place has all the tutorials so you can figure out how the program works. It seems pretty simple. There's links from there to graphic packs so you can have almost every time of creature imaginable.

We would need a DM. I could do it but I really would rather be a player. I haven't DM'ed in years and I'm not much caring to go back to it.

I'll DM if you don't mind all the PCs getting smashed by a meteor made of rabid tarrasques that are on fire in the first round of the game.

I'm not a good DM, I guess.

This actually sounds pretty cool, although I'm not sure how Sloth and I will go what with our crazy reverse time zone.

I'd love to play as well, but seeing as I am on GMT -3 I'm dead on the middle of everyone else. I don't know if being up for losing a few hours of sleep to play D&D counts as something positive or not, either.

But oh, oh, oh the endless medieval cock possibilities...

If everyone who has said they want to play wants to play we'll need two games.  Maybe a western hemisphere game and a european hemisphere game, with the aussies doing the best they can?  Or just try to cram all the australians into a late night US game?  I don't have school/work until 11 AM, so I can play pretty late.  Maybe a weekend and a weeknight game?

Either way, two games could help solve the time difficulty, whenever they are.  If we want to make things especially hard on the DM's, we could even have neat little crossover events, or play opposite sides of a campaign, or something that would equally engorge our nerd boners.  On the other hand, it sounds fun to try to play with nine people at whenever-the-fuck thirty in the morning, tromping around dungeons, smashing goblins with the crude flails our characters have attached to their genitals*.

And I just rolled up Thundercrotch Crapspewer, a mighty, dragonborne warlord.  You do not want to know what happens when he activates his dragon breath power (hint: it's a poison based attack).

*In case this is confusing, I meant to imply that our characters had attached flails to their own genitals, not to those of the goblins.  Only after they have smashed the goblins will the PC's attach still more flails to the genitals of the goblin corpses, plus any friendly NPCs wandering by in shocked bemusement, nearby animals, etc.  I guess I imagine a very specific purpose driving our party.

I'm changing my character's name to Virgil Beardstrike. He's still a dwarf though.

Are we going to need to purchase the 4th ed books for this? I reckon I probably should, but if I can get away with not buying it I'd like to do so.

I'd love to try getting in on this.  Does it matter that I've only played DnD on the computer?

I can't believe I hadn't jumped on this opportunity yet. I kept reading the thread and saying to myself, "I will definitely be throwing my hat into that ring," but apparently never did. May I still be down for this?

It should also be pointed out that I will not be able to afford the books for this, but it's likely that all of the information is on the internet by now anyway.

What time will we be playing? Karlski and I are at GMT +8. Weekends are probably best if we can organise a game session a week.

Also, what about size? I find more than 6 players becomes unweildy. I suppose it would be difficult to organise regular meetings larger than that.

Why not arrange a gaming group, then have individual smaller groups who play together. If we wanted to be huge dorks, we could set the whole thing in the same world and have the various parties play in different parts. DMs could communicate about world-events between themselves where necessary.

We should start our on wiki or some junk, once we get a definate list of players.
