Shit. Ana Ivanovic is out. Fucking Venus. She's replaced Hingis for me as the best looking woman in tennis - I know, I know, don't get me wrong, Sharapova's great, but she's not my type.

Did anyone see the interview straight after she beat Vaidisova? She was all happy and sweaty and god I would be her slave.

Don't really like the long hair, but yum nonetheless.

Alright, so Federer won the French Open, Nadal's knees are messed up (he may pull out) and Gael Monfils just pulled out of Wimbledon. Discuss.

I love the first few days of Wimbeldon as we get to watch British players lose again and again. Each of them doing just enough to raise expectations (say, by winning the first set) and then dashing them with greater and greater failures. Six lost today. Oh well, at least Murray got through. If we don't have any upsets we should get a Murray-Federer final. Obviously you'd expect Federer to win what with him being the greatest tennis player of all time on his favourite surface, but Murray can be tricky; he tends to search for an opponent's weakness and then punish it. Still, Murray has a better chance at the US open.

As for the women, I am always suprised by how little quality there is in woman's tennis. I saw a game today where I think there were four break points in a row. Safina is the world number 1 and she hasn't won a grand slam yet! I hope Sharapova goes the distance, at least she looks like she wants to win.  And we get to argue over female players grunting again. If you haven't heard Michelle Larcher de Brito find a video of her on youtube.

Also, I really don't know what to make of this, but I felt it very important to share.

So both Williams sisters blasted everyone else off the court all the way to the final (to be fair, Dementieva put up a good fight) and Serena came out on top. The Venus-Safina semi-final was incredible, when was the last time a world number 1 was beaten so thoroughly?

Roddick did well to beat Murray. God damn Murray is boring to watch; even against weaker opponents he just waits for them to make errors.

Not like Federer, who is a goddamn artist. I don't think he's broken a sweat so far this tourament and he might well be playing some of the best tennis of his career. He attempts shots that only someone who thought they were the best in the world would try; and he's never proved wrong. Federer had no trouble breaking the monster serve of Karlovic, I would be surprised if Roddick can even get this to go to four sets.

I'm not a devout fan of tennis but Roddick and Federer are playing a top-shelf match right now.  Fifth-set "tiebreaker", Roddick hasn't been broken once, and Federer has about 400 aces.  This could potentially last a very long time.

I pretty much never watch tennis, but I've been glued to the TV for three hours.  I'm not convinced this match will ever actually end.  It's amazing how greatness, no matter the sport or if you ever watched it before or will ever watch it again, pulls you in and just keeps you mesmerized.

This match will only be decided when one of the two literally passes out on the court.

I would be surprised if Roddick can even get this to go to four sets.

I'm not saying that hindsight's 20/20, but just how surprised are you now, Tim?

We are at 14-15 now, and it seems Federer is getting the upper hand (but only slight)

But it is an awesome game, and i hope it will go on for a long time, it is amazing to see how good these guys are after over 3 hours of tennis

That's one hell of a way to make history. 16-14 fifth set. That's got to be some sort of a record.

Still wasn't as long as last year's final with Nadal. Also wasn't as good a match. Federer didn't play very well today but I think in the end his superior fitness pulled him through. Also a ridiculous number of aces.

And yeah Codespyder, I was pretty fucking surprised. But then, if you just look at those last 30 games in set 5, would you predict Roddick breaking a Federer service game?

As an aside, in that second set tie-break when Federer was a set down and losing 5-1, I bet a quid on him to win the match with some rather tasty 3/2 odds. That's probably the only time you'll get better than evens when betting on Federer to win a match.

well it actually is a record! the 77 games they played is a new wimbledon record.

and for some additional info:

Longest match: At the 2004 French Open, Fabrice Santoro took 6 hours, 33 minutes to defeat Arnaud Clément 6–4, 6–3, 6–7(5), 3–6, 16–14.[1]

which i took from wikipedia

To be fair, I held the same opinion as you before the match. Roddick fighting back in the 4th set and holding his own in that last one was really impressive, but it was a matter of time before Federer got the upper hand. I was surprised at how neither broke serve for basically the entire final set.

Well Andy Murray has won the Montreal Masters and therefore moves up the ranking; overtaking Nadal to get number 2. This is the first time since 2005 someone other than Federer/Nadal has held one of the top two places. He'll be looking at the US open just around the corner and hoping for a first grand slam win. If he gets it, and wins in Australia too. He could get to number 1.

So all he has to do is end Federer's five year streak of winning the US Open. What could be simpler.

The funny thing is, even if Murray does get to number 1 in the world, the British public won't give a shit until you WIN WIMBELDON COME ON JUST DO IT WE'VE WAITED SO LONG!

Nonono, Nadal is the android, Federer is more like a demi-god. This is the essential duality at the top of tennis.

As soon as Murray gets a robot owl and a flying horse, he will be able to compete with them.
