Sorry for the double post.  I just realized you won't be able to read that unless you subscribe to the chronicle.  I'll just cut and paste the story.

Professor Gets Taken for a Ride in Video Game
By INGRID NORTON

In her years of studying the effects of video games, Karen Dill, an associate professor of psychology at Lenoir-Rhyne College, has endured blog rants about her work and the glares of young men watching her presentations.

But until now she's never actually been cast in one of the games.

The "Karin Dilettante" is a sporty hybrid sedan that appears in Grand Theft Auto IV, the latest installment in the famously violent and sexualized series of video games. "Chicks love electronic gadgets" is the slogan in fake ads for the car.

Ms. Dill says she couldn't believe that Rockstar Games, the maker of Grand Theft Auto, had taken the trouble to name a car for her: "I was kind of like, whoa, they actually do care about video-game research."

She has studied the link between games and aggression since graduate school in the late '90s, when she was surprised to find that people actually came to her talks when the subject was video games. Her research on Grand Theft Auto has questioned the crass sex that characters have with strippers in the cars and looked at the effects of racial and gender stereotypes. Ms. Dill has described her work before Congressional committees and on morning talk shows.

Tim Smith, editorial director of spong.com, a video-game database, has criticized her on his company's site. He said via e-mail that most research on video-game violence "is laughable and at best debatable." Showing that video games produce aggression is easy enough, he said, but the same results could probably be found by monitoring people watching basketball games or reading some of Shakespeare's plays.

Still, while Rockstar Games hasn't commented on the car's naming, Mr. Smith called it "a cheap, teenage-like trick."

Ms. Dill took it more lightly. She was just relieved she wasn't a prostitute.

The only thing that's gone weird for me so far was during Puerto Rico Connection. I was on a bike, following the train like a good boy, when I ran over a fire hydrant and Niko fell off. No biggie, right? Except he couldn't get back up. He kept slipping on the water or something. So while he's lying there twitching, the train gets away, and as soon as that happens, Niko finally gets up...and then gets hit by a taxi and dies. Fantastic.

I've been playing the game a lot, and I've only managed to kill 17 pigeons or so.  I hear that if you get all of them, your prize is a helicopter equipped with not just miniguns, but rockets.  Sweet mercy.  But regardless, I don't know if I will have the energy to find all of those pigeons.

I really don't liket he way they do the whole "secret package" thing now.  Whatever happened to the system where they would reward you after each ten or so?  that at least made me want to keep going.  BUt knowing you have to do all 200 or so before anything good happens?  who, seriously, is going to take the time to do that?

So I started playing this again after taking some time off and played the Heat style mission for Packie yesterday.  I probably made a cool quarter to half a million off that mission.  Afterwards I thought I'd treat Roman to a titty bar and Niko proceeded to complain about how down on his luck and miserable his life is the whole way.  Will nothing satisfy this man?

I know there's a topic for GTA4 and I just read through all 33 pages and couldn't find what I needed and I don't see any general "help" topics, so please if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Xbox 360 and on Live I can't figure out how to earn money. It says that I can earn money somehow but I can't find anything online about how to earn it and it doesn't tell me in the game, unless I'm missing it somewhere.

Please, someone, help.

You need to make sure that you are in a ranked online match not a player match, ranked matches are ones which you cannot invite a friend into and have separate leader boards tracking your progress.

So I can only get money in ranked matches? Do I just earn it?

For those of you who will buy the PC version, here are the specs:

Minimum System Requirements

    * OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
    * Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz
    * Memory: 1.5GB, 16GB Free Hard Drive Space
    * Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900

Recommended System Requirements

    * OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
    * Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz
    * Memory: 2 GB (Windows XP) 2.5 GB (Windows Vista)
    * 18 GB Free Hard Drive Space
    * Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

Needless to say, they are far higher than any other game that comes to memory. I bought a quad a couple of months ago and it's already recommended specs. I'm guessing two GB of RAM will be pushing most systems too. And notice that it requires the SP3; if you have a WiFi connection using Ralink drivers, you might have a hard time making it work again.

You can watch sample clips made using the in-game video editor here. Looks like it has serious potential.

When the expansion "The Lost and the Damned" is released on Live in about a week (Feb 17 is the date on the trailers, I hope it's simultaneous for everywhere in the world) it will also be available to buy in certain retail stores (in Australia, at least) as a physical package. It won't come with a disc, but it will come with a poster size "New Map" with artwork on the back, and some other extras depending on the store. You'll still need to own a copy of GTA4 and you will still need to download the game off Xbox live. The only difference is you can pay for it in cash (roughly the equivalent to the amount of Live points you would need to purchase it, 1600, but then again that will depend on the store) and activate your download with a unique key.

I'm intrigued by the idea of a "New Map" - does that just mean interiors of places you couldn't visit before or a complete rearrangement of where everything is? I saw a thumbnail size picture of it and it's definitely the same shape as the Liberty City from GTA4.

I'm sorry if this is stuff everyone know already, but because I'm such a spoilerphobe about this amazing game (I haven't even finished the main game yet, I'm at 48%, so I've got to look out for spoilers for both the expansion AND the game itself) so the only material I've really read about this are the somewhat privileged memos a guy I know who works at a game store has read. If anyone's got any new info on the expansion that isn't like a massive spoiler, please share.

Why would the PC requirements be so high?  Doesn't the game run on the 360 which came out a few years ago now?  Wouldn't you think it could run on a PC with similar specs?  Those products look a lot newer

I just recently traded in my PS3 copy to Gamestop. Never finished the game and probably played it less than 10 hours. I know, I'm gay. I just couldn't stand it anymore. I've realized GTA games have become not as fun for me anymore. I've become an old man, somebody shoot me!

this game was great, until you beat it, it has absolutely no replay value, the online mode is horrible, absolutely horrible...if you want a game like this that'll entertain you for a longer period of time get saints row 2, the story isn't as good, but there's more to do in that game, and their online is more co-operative based

That link has been updated to include a link to the actual pecker video now.

Cocks are so rare. I still remember seeing my first cock, besides my own. My parents were watching Trainspotting and I happened to come out of my room just as one of the junkies is displaying his package. 'What's that, a dollop of skin surrounded by some hair?'

You know similar things are going to be happening with this. So many 12 year-olds are going to see their first cock and be so confused.

Man, cocks are awesome.

What?

GTAIV Free mode with 16 people is probably some of the most fun I've had with a game this year.

Actually, now that I think about it, the other modes are for the most part pretty lame. I just don't see how you could buy a Grand Theft Auto game and then not like Free Mode with a ton of people.

Has anyone been playing this expansion? I've only played through the first half a dozen missions, and watched my housemate play through some more that come after that, and wow, this game is tits. There's a lot of new names and faces to keep track of from the word go, but much like the original GTA4 the number of characters you start interacting with increases exponentially as you play through the game.

Coolest moment so far in my game (spoilers):

When I played through the first mission with Niko (the heroin deal that turned out to be an LCPD sting) I decided to make my getaway out the back of the building. Remember that as Niko you and Playboy went up to the rooftop and now as Johnny you escape downstairs. As I emerged from the back door, I heard a loud yell increasing in volume until a SWAT guy falling from the sky splattered onto the ground in front of me. Nice work, Niko.

Coolest moment so far in my housemate's game (spoilers again)

Where you have to make a getaway from a SHITLOAD of cops and you're riding bitch on a motorbike with one of your biker buddies. You defend him from cop cars with an awesome powerful gun and then you lay down pipe bombs to get the rest of them. This mission is special because you get to do something I always wanted to do in this game - blow up pursuing cops without having to worry about driving, and getting to actually watch the carnage take place. And as if that wasn't enough, when my housemate fucked it up the first couple of times, he could reload the mission from half way through.

You fucking heard me.

I'm probably going to restart the game just to see that first moment. As for me, I liked the final mission. I thought it was really easy, but fun. Chopper vs. Chopper (A multiplayer mode) is amazing.

So I have not read anything on this (just heard about it), but am I correct that all these events are occurring at the same time as the events you experience as Nico?
