As you can see, the damage was not so great as they say.

I see that the story's going for a different vibe from the previous JDATE, emphasized by the Nedroid pictures.  The darkish super-descriptive style is still in force, which is good.  Loved the Rorschach ink blots and the Goliath bird-eating spider section.

This sequel has truly made my stuck-indoors-working Halloween.  I look forward to next week.  Damn suspense.

Reading it now.

Dammit Dave stop those animated gifs fading in and out.

And don't reply "what animated gifs?"  You know exactly what I'm talking about.

They're the ones the Shadow People put in.  DUH.

That passage about the "disappearance" of the girl, follwed by the picture of that spider just fucking got to me. I had to take a break. Seriously, my flesh was crawling. This is great.

I had to stop reading at Thong Bonerstorm for about 5 minutes while I recovered from laughing.

The Nedroid drawing of a girl being disassembled by a shadow person is very off putting. It's like a teddy bear full of razor blades.

Holy shit - this is a good beginning. I love that it's possible to make my friends read this without first reading JDatE the first...

I especially like the pictures in this one - not just Nedroid's (which of course are hilarious) but the random creepy pictures every couple of paragraphs. The ink blot test was awesome.

(Sorry, I accidentally posted this in the wrong JDATE thread...can someone delete my identical post in the JDaTE2 thread please?)

Wow, it's great so far.  I didn't expect to have to wait another WEEK for another part but actually the return to reading in serial format has me excited.  I always love the anticipation.  I'm glad you write, David.

Nedroid's pictures are the perfect compliment.  Their cuteness makes things all the more grim.  There is nothing as creepy as a children's-style Shadow Man with a :) face.

Excellent.  Most excellent.

The pictures are kinda distracting, though, in my opinion.  Fun, but distracting, taking away from the dramatic effect.  So far, however, I think it's just me that thinks that.  And I'm fairly insane so who cares what I say?

However, like the original JDatE, it somehow manages to put in the funiest and lowest brow humor in the midst of a creepy tale in a smooth, stylish, and absolutely riviting way.  I like it.  A lot.    I guess so far it's not as good as the first, but that's like complaining Godfather Part II isn't as good as Godfather.  (okay, maybe not on THAT level, but the same kind of comparison)

Maybe only 5 pages, but the most MIND BLOWING 5 pages ever written! The whole thing with the assistant has gotten me wondering whether Dave really is crazy or whether he's correct. I'm sure the Shadow People are real, but just because that would be kinda anti-climatic to find out he's just crazy.

I liked the ink blots. The motorcycle guy was probably the closest thing we saw in common, though I saw it as a guy with a penis so big he was using it as a tripod.

Hooked, hooked and hooked.  But holy fucking shit, that was perfect.  I had full body chills for the goliath spider, and I had to stop reading because I got so creeped out.

My only complaint is that it's going to be in segments :(.  And a whole WEEK?  But it is going to be damn worth it, and I'm looking forward to the next installments.

Dave, as a reader, I say you sit down and do some more hardcore editing and propose your story to an actual publisher.  This shouldn't be restricted to readers soley on the internet and a few copies you sell off of cafepress. I should see banners advertising this book on buses, seeing the book on it's own table at Barnes and Noble, and see it as a required reading at school.  You're an awesome writer, and who cares if you only sold a few hundred copies?  Successful book series have come up from lowlier spots.  If you get rejected, pfft, whatever, move onto a next publisher.  Lots of series get rejected tens of times before they get picked up by a publisher.  I say do it.  Get John Dies at the End out there.

I absolutely adored the beginning of this story - and I think it is a fantastic idea to keep posting it as a serial. You've made me want to buy hard copies now and make my friends read it!

I loved the bird eating spider..... can't wait for the next installment!

The new story's living up to it's predecessor. I was half afraid it'd turn out not to be as good as the last one, since the last one's just a wonderful piece of fiction. So far, looks like my fears were wrong. Keep up the great work.

JDatE was the reason I came and stayed on this website. This story, though it is going to be a serial, is alread turning out to be somehing too amazing to not be regarded as the most brilliant story on earth. Love it. Do you get the point??? Anyway, if the rest is anything like the first installment, I guarantee people will stick around to read on for as long as you keep writing and even beyond.

p.s. you've made me a little frustrated as my Nanaowrimo will be nowhere near as awesome as this.

p.p.s. I'm drunk!

The whole thing with the assistant has gotten me wondering whether Dave really is crazy or whether he's correct. I'm sure the Shadow People are real, but just because that would be kinda anti-climatic to find out he's just crazy.

But of course, this is what the Shadow People do - they don't just kill people, they erase them. The researchers would have no idea, but since this Shadow Man seems to want specifically bother Dave for currently undisclosed reasons, he remembers the incident in vivid detail.

That assistant scene was chilling, by the way. The whole business about a fucking bird-eating spider was great, and the ink blots were perfect.
