I watched and it was so, so awful. I thought towards the end it would get a bit optimistic for the guy with the glasses who climbed over the wall at the start but then that didn't really pan out. And the way they talk about women was so incredibly sad and unpleasant, that was the worst part by miles. It was like they had created an imaginary enemy and then deliberately set themselves up to be defeated by that enemy, it was horrible misogyny but it came from a position of imagined weakness rather than real power.

It was cool watching the douchebag PUA-in-training guy become less and less energetic before eventually collapsing into devastating self-awareness at 3am in the hotel room, I liked that. There was a part where that guy said something interesting though, that personal appearance and personality weren't mutually exclusive and if you change one you change the other. It's not exactly a revelation but he managed to articulate it really succinctly, though he decided to interpret that genuinely good idea in the most cynical and super-terrible way.

Yeah, when that guy says that he specifically approaches ugly women with the presupposition that they're more likely to sleep with him because they're so ugly, there's so much wrong going on there how could you ever know what to say.

If there was some way to monetise making people cringe, these guys would be billionaires.

I liked the documentary. It was an interesting character study. I have chicken-and-egg questions about what came first: Their bitterness or their loneliness. I suspect with the long-haired kid, the two have both been building off one another for years and years.

Felt really bad for the website founder.

My first instincts were to despise the PUA guy and the long haired kid. Yet there were moments when I really just began to pity them. Other times I just wanted to shake them and yell things like, “BE MORE SELF AWARE!”

I wonder what would happen if you came back to each of these guys in ten years. Would a few of them break the cycle and become happy and well-adjusted? If the website founder with the glasses continues on his track, will he eventually develop the same level of anger and hatred that some of the others formed? I mean, his desires seemed purer than the others, but did you see the way his face twisted up a little bit at the end when his ex-girlfriend suggests he hasn’t got it that bad?

So this isn't a rhetorical question: why does this seem to be a male only thing?

I'm not saying it's a problem with the documentary - there really does seem to be an all male subculture of these types of people. But logically that doesn't really make sense to be, because there are obviously 25 year old women who are awkward as shit and can't find a guy to be with them. Why is there a male subculture but not a female one?

I'd say that it's because how we view traditional gender roles in relationships. From what I've understood, this culture is the by-product of awkward guys who see a media that claims they deserve a woman at some point, and are reacting to the fact they aren't getting one. From the female standpoint, the media tells them to wait for a guy to ask for them, and if none do, you're told to do nothing and become a crazy cat lady.

Also this is hilarious. I love them discussing the Alpha Omega crap, and how one of them literally says Omegas are genetic garbage. I swore he'd advocate eugenics for a moment.

This documentary has one of the more interesting character dynamics I've seen in a while.  The guy with the glasses who started the site has, I think, the most normal view on relationships and women.  He seems to understand that he is capable of finding a relationship, but also recognizes his biggest social weakness.

The other two (PUA and Advanced) are different shades of the same color to me.  They both objectify women in their own way.  The PUA is essentially trying to trick a girl into bed.  It's like a video game with little objectives that ultimately lead to a final boss to conquer.  There's a feeling of superiority with the PUA that is extremely off-putting.

Advanced, on the other hand, is taking a really clinical approach to attractiveness.  He talks about facial symmetry, and being ugly, and all these physical traits.  He sees women as being these completely superficial beings.  When he lays out what you have to have to get a girlfriend, he only mentions looks.  He doesn't seem to understand that women might have, you know, emotions or a sense of humor, or a brain.  (Ladies do have those things, right?)  It's equally as objectifying as the PUA, the difference is that he has a constant feeling of inferiority.

This documentary is fascinating to me.  And the art for the PUA's proposed "Dud to Stud" boot camp idea is beyond insane.

Yeah, that was my first thought. But just from personal experience, the socially awkward females I know totally want to find a guy in the same way that these guys want to find a girl. Sure, the whole "men pick up the women" stereotype might be kind of true in some aspects like buying someone a drink at a bar, but it also isn't in so many parts of life. When people, for example, meet organically - through mutual friends or something - there seems to be a true 50/50 split there. Both guys and girls are perfectly fine with pursuing someone they think is attractive.

So I think there really are a lot of women out there with the same mindset of "I have to find a guy and convince him to date me", but for some reason there's only a male subculture.

This reminded me of this horrifying blog I came across the other day, which is one of those things where you think it HAS to be a joke, but then you realize that even if it is, whoever wrote it would have to be crazy anyway: it's a dude who thinks the government should create programs to solve this "involuntary celibacy" problem.

He has dozens of posts detailing how this could be done and talking about other "incel" issues, but then there's this delightful post called "My parents – criminals who deserve to be put in jail or killed" (bear in mind that this dude is also active on Reddit and Tumblr, so if this is a fake personality it's insanely elaborate):

Quote
I will describe their horrible crimes.

1. For almost 10 years they’re refusing to help me find a girlfriend, thus causing unimaginable pain and damage to me. There are numerous ways in which they could help me, like introducing me to daughters of their co-workers or asking my relatives for help but they did not do so because they’re murderous idiots who live in the 70s/80s and think it’s easy to find a girlfriend if you want one.

They’re simply murdering their child (using the following mechanism :1 . I am left without a gf/sex 2. Which makes me unable to fulfill my basic needs 3. Which makes me depressed and hopeless 4. Which destroys my will to live 5. Which makes me suicidal

2. They’re refusing to co-sign my appeals to government and various institutions for over 5 years because they fail to see it’s the only way, thus weaking their impact.

3. My mother, the murderous whore, is refusing to have sex with me when that could alleviate my sexual frustration.

OK, I'll just stop there.

Am I the only one who saw the PUA and instantly thought he was doing a really shitty impression of Nic Cage?

It took me a good 10 minutes to realise he wasn't taking this piss. I'm sad now.

Is this a forum that bans people who are civil but have opposing views? Just so I know if there's any point in making a reply to this.

From the comments on that video:

Quote from: A guy responding to a girl calling the Shy Boys "horrible people"
Would you rather help them and show them that women aren't all bad? Instead of hating on them, show them kindness and their attitudes will change. Force answers force. Hatred answers hatred.

Emphasis mine. I don't think that guy gets it.

Edit: holy shit you guys Alexius found us.

Actually, I remember a thread where people were making fun of some furry webcomic, the artist saw it and came and talked to the rest of the people in a civil, rational manner. A lot of people hated his comic but since he didn't get all pissy or spaz at the moderators or forum members, everyone was calm and collected and no one got banned.

So we accept furries, at the very least.

Alright then. I asked this simply because it seems to me that most members of this forum are from TAC and TAC members are extremely trigger-happy when it comes to censorship. I got banned from certain sub reddits after a single short post.  I admit that I haven't read any FAQs this forum has but they don't mean a lot because what is important is how people actually lead the forum. Ok, my reply is coming up....
