I think Nicol just admitted to finding benfromcanada hysterical.
To be fair, I have never used netspeak at all, except in that one superhero thread where my character was the /b/tard. And even that felt dirty.

I could be completely wrong about this, but from what I've seen, if your karma reaches a certain low point and you would like to improve it, you're pretty much screwed.

Uh-uh

Anyways, when anyone's post makes me think "this is clever and funny", even without making me laugh out loud completely, I'll applaud them. Particularly good photoshops or replies-in-image-form get applauds from me. Most things that make the forum a fun place to read I'll applaud. However, when I see posts like 3/4 of vagitoe's posting history or the people who argue with John Cheese in the video section, I'll smite them. Posts that clearly aren't "pwot-minded" get smited/smote/smunted by me.

I applaud when I see either a great joke or an excellent (and intentional) setup for a joke. In Hitler's Brain, I applaud posts that contribute an interesting point that hasn't been considered yet, or useful information on the topic that will change the direction of the discussion.
There are a couple posters I applaud on general principle, since they're consistently hilarious and if I haven't seen something worth applauding from them that day it's because I didn't read enough threads.
I smite when I see any egregiously stupid statement, attempts to derail a good thread, stupid personal attacks, hideously unfunny jokes or links, terrible grammar and spelling, Pecked By Birds, or vagitoe.

I rarely ever applaud, but I smite people in HB if they are being completely biased and refusing to look at any side other than theirs.  I'm probably just being biased myself.

Wow. That's good to hear.

I guess not everyone on here is as stubborn and closed minded as I am. Good to know.

I go on mad smiting rampages whenever I lose a karma point and revenge-smite people over several weeks if I have a hunch they smote me. Aside from this, I'm pretty random with my smiting/applauding. On a bad day I can smite someone for disagreeing with me, on good days I only do it for extreme douchebaggery and Hall of Bad Posts material.

If you can think of a better way to win the bi-monthly Karma Kup I'd like to here it. Until then, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to win that mystery moderator date grand prize.

There have been times when I've thought up a perfect post to a thread, and then I see that it was last posted in 6 months ago.  I figure my response probably wasn't as funny as I thought it was, and restrain myself.  While I commend new members for looking through the old threads to familiarize themselves with topics already discussed, if they revive a months old thread merely to say "Yeah!" or "Haha" I smite them.  I also smite them if they suggest names for "new" pets that are a year old by now.  However, if they bump an old thread that I missed when I was perusing the old threads, and if it was a really good thread, I'll applaud them for bringing it to my attention.

I also smite people who bump their own threads, either blatantly or cleverly disguised as a response to weeks old feedback.

I do think there are a few circle jerks going around.  5 or 6 new members who really aren't that funny (in my opinion, which is not always to be trusted) getting applauded multiple times per day, disproportionate to their number of posts, raise my suspicions.  I don't know which is more sad; one guy with multiple accounts or a group of friends swearing undying karma to each other, forever.

The mystery of course being why anyone would want to win that prize.

As for me, I smite and applaud based on whichever user I think is most likely to put out.

I try to applaud people that are clearly working to improve the quality of their posts. I started out in the negatives as well, and used the karma as a gauge to see what I was doing wrong (which was pretty much everything, apparently).

I smite those that are being clearly awful, either intentionally or otherwise.

I usually Applaud people who make me laugh and/or reply cleverly (is that even a word?) to a post (not in a smartarse way)

I haven't found any reason to smite peeps yet, mainly because I haven't seen any attrocious posts

My applaud habits don't stray too much from what I've read so far.  I applaud when something makes me laugh, smile, cry, or think.

I also applaud when someone is making a conscious effort to stop being a douchebag.  There was one forum member in particular who was in the negative 100s at one point.  Suddenly this member started turning himself around.  I recognized this and I applauded him every time I saw a good post from him to let him know his efforts were not unnoticed.  When he finally reached the positives I was literally proud him.  But shortly thereafter, he regressed and fell back into the negatives.  I now smite him every time I see his name because I am disappointed in him and I fucking hate him.

Besides that, I smite people who try to be "edgy" and also people who are obviously lying about something.

I don't remember the last time I smitten someone. I usually applaud when I see a very funny post, or tag line. I don't know why, but I feel an urge to applaud hyperglavin every time I see one of his posts. His picture, I guess.

There's this forum my father goes to. This forum is from the place where he was born (it's a really small place). I noticed a month before they put in [applaud] and [smite] options. Until today, everybody on the forum still have 0 karma. I guess they don't know how to use (it's a really small place).

I use them as a corrective or an encouragement for the kinds of posts I want to see more or less of.  If I see a post that's just 'ok' I click [applamite].

Sorry to smite you, but your karma's been stuck at -99 for more than a day and the OCD in me compels me to make it -100.
