I opened a thread in the Mirth Canal a while ago with the aim of letting everyone here know when I posted something funny (grain of salt, taken) on my utterly sweet music blog. Now upgraded to the Music Topic, here is the better, revamped and more topic-relevant version of that thread.

As before, I'll keep posting my horrendous crap here until it gets boring.

I don't generally like rap, but I agreed with those of your picks for "Rap Songs it's Okay to Like" which I recognized, and yeah, I sometimes think that the "indie crowd" behaves the way that it does with some vague notion that they'll get more people to listen to the bands they like that way.

So yeah, I thought your stuff was pretty well written and occasionally funny. Good work.

I also thought your recent article was both funny and well-written. Congratulations. Also, your 10 Most Hated Music Genres Ever was good (I'm not trying to shamelessly promote the site by linking, by the way. I just thought I should provide a link in case anyone wants to take a look).

Also, Cowtppr, I remember mentioning that you were in a band, but at the time I thought it was just a "we jam together after work and occasionally play at open mic night" kind of band, not a professional (or semi-professional, possibly?) band. As a huge music nerd who is always checking out new bands, can I ask what your guys' name is? Providing links (myspace, etc.) would also be awesome.

Another though on indieness: black, shredded Converse Allstars. I once took a photo of an entire group of hipsters standing on a building stoop, and not one person had anything other than black, roadkill-looking converse allstars. Part of that is completely sweet (like when the cool guy does it at a cocktail party), but part of it is rage-inducing (like when everyone tries to be the cool guy.)

Well, we aren't by any means professional, it's a part time thing, but we've been gaining a fairly large following recently.  It did originally start as us just jamming together, but it just has slowly evolved over time.  We're also not exactly indie, but we're close to the genre and we play with a lot of indie bands.  We're called Sleeping in the Mouth of a Monster and any and all criticism is appreciated.  But yeah, this thread isn't about my band. Keep up the good work with the music blogging!

Black shredded Converse are only cool if they're actually old.

My favorite pair of Converse is purple. They manage to be cool whilst causing people to question my sexuality. Far more edgy than some fake holes.

Nice blog, by the way. I enjoyed it, despite the fact that I listen to almost no indie.

Not bad. The music itself if badass, but the singer's voice is...not so badass. Generally the songs remind me a little of My Morning Jacket, which is rad as hell.

I dig the guitar, and the names of stuff. "Don't Support People by Sleeping in the Mouth of a Monster" sounds pretty cool just as a statement ... you should definitely have more songs named with imperatives.


I had this sweet pair of converse when I was about 9 that was multi-colored, like a jigsaw puzzle on acid. I remember actually getting in a fight over them because some fat kid threw them over a fence into a creek during soccer practice. I bet he totally questioned my sexuality too. Maybe if they'd been more shredded.

This isn't really that funny, but I just heard the details behind the soon-to-be-released debut album of Them Crooked Vultures -- a.k.a. three musicians who could individually pile drive your face into Sally Struthers' nether regions without you uttering a protest, and who combined will pretty much devastate everyone's sister, mother and auntie without remorse.
