New film written and directed by Richard Kelly called The Box, It's based on a short story by Richard Matheson.
A couple who recieve a box from a stranger who tells them that by pressing the button on the box they will recieve $1 million. But, pressing the button will cause someone, somewhere in the world to die.

Anyway, It looks very good in my opinion and i think it's released early November.

The first half of that trailer was awesome. I was thinking what a simple yet fantastic premise: a couple going through all the shades of emotion in having to deal with the overwhelming psychological dilemma they have been presented with.

Then for some reason it turned into a fucking gay action film. What the hell?

I agree it did seem to turn toward action/thriller, but the premise alone looks like it could hold it together.
Plus I think Richard Kelly has yet to make a bad movie.

The first thing that shocked me about the trailer is that it wasn't scored to "The Box" by Orbital. I don't know why, but since I first heard about the film I assumed the trailer would be set to that song. I mean, it's not like Richard Kelly has shown himself to be against using existing songs to score his films and I just thought it would fit perfectly with his style of films and the plot of this one.

Second, I'm not so sure about the dream-like soft blur or haze, looks like someone smeared the lens of the camera and it just doesn't look right for the thriller angle they seem to be aiming for.

Finally, plot-wise, I must say I'm mostly interested in the supernatural aspects of the story, specially when the old lady turns some statues or something into water. That was cool.

The music in the trailer reminded me of the Saw movies. If that's the audience they're targetting, I think I'll pass on this one.

Apparently Cameron Diaz pretty much spoiled all the new twists added to Richard Kelly's take during the Comic-Con panel:  http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=14399

Huh, this is pretty weird. The Box almost has the exact premise as a short film I saw called The Black Button.

It's been adapted more than once, I know there was an episode of the new Twilight Zone based on it too.

Yeah, the actual film music is frequently not available, and the little companies that specialize in trailers don't give a shit about accurately representing the movie anyway, so don't judge a movie by its trailer music.

It is probably worth mentioning that if you follow this link, you will have an absolutely massive plot twist of the movie spoiled for you. So don't do it, because it sucks.

I'm not trying to call out ZombieAsuma, because he makes it pretty clear that it has spoilers. I'm just saying that if you're curious (like me) and an enormous idiot (like me), but you don't want the movie spoiled for you, then don't follow that link.

Also, the New York Post's 1-star review (which, by the way, also shouldn't be looked at unless you want to have the decision of whether or not they push the button spoiled for you as well) "After a slightly promising start, this great-looking but ultimately deeply confusing and unscary sci-fi/horror opus turns into a quite boring rehash of M. Night Shyamalan's post-"Signs" films."

Please, for god's sake, don't let that be the case. Unless it's like Unbreakable. That was kind of cool. I'd settle for Unbreakable.

The spoiler you're referring to is not really all that big of a deal, considering that the story has been remade several times already. I had read a review in Empire magazine that didn't give away any of the plot twists but rather cleverly mentioned that if you watched the trailer, you could figure it out anyway. That, and the fact that this rather important point is basically brushed over before the movie has barely had enough time to set the scene would also explain why Richard Kelly felt the need to fill the remaining hour and a half with his patented "I'm desperately trying to be David Lynch" bullshit.

So far this movie has only made $13.2 million. Looking back, I think a better ad campaign would have been something like "NOVEMBER 8th: ARE YOU TOO SCARED TO TOUCH CAMERON DIAZ'S BOX?"

It reminded me of an LD debate topic from last year:

Resolved: It is morally permissible to kill one innocent person to save the lives of more innocent people.

Except, in a sense, it's more personally profitable with the million-dollar thing. I'm not sure if I'd do it. I probably would, given the chance.

Anyhow, I heard it's all right. I haven't seen Cameron Diaz in awhile, but I don't really miss her. I assume it's a damned good plot, but the lack of advertising (I didn't even know it was coming out 'til it was out) and maybe even the directing may have ruined it. It had good potential. *sigh*
