A man by the name of Neb777 had a dream.  He would do a play through of TIE Fighter, and post pics of his glory for all to see.  He had the disc there with hi8m, but no joystick.  And so, he decided that he would recreate the entire thing in MSPaint from memory.

And then he decided he would let forumgoers decide what to do next.

It ends up every bit as bizarre and twisted as you might imagine, and is archived for free at the link provided.

Wow, it only took five pages for him to go from recreating the gameplay of TIE Fighter to murdering the entire Star Fox team.  I'm impressed.

That ending was brilliant. I can honestly say I did not see that coming.

That is the glory of let's plays that completely disregard what actually happens.

There's an Oregon Trail let's play that has the same philosophy.  The Neckebearde family sets out for Oregon loaded with bibles, laudanum, and bacon.

Are you talking about from Something Awful? Was that the one with the fantastic drawings of covered wagons power-sliding down hills?

That could be it.  Does it have a child with no face?

Cause I think there's more than one let's play, and most of the LPs come from Something Awful.

I don't think so. It took a little searching, but this is the one I'm talking about. Check out some of those pictures and tell me it's not fucking awesome.

You might be talking about the original LP the dude gets the idea from, though. He mentions in the first post that someone named Chewbot had already done one. If it is on SA, it's probably buried pretty deep, and their search function is out of order. So, probably going to be tough to find.

Yes, that's the one!  I found it again, though.  It's archived here.

Haven't quite read through the one that you linked, but I know I looked at it at some point.

They almost did the same thing for Dwarf Fortress except with players taking turns instead of taking in suggestions.

Speaking of Chewbot, he did a rather famous LP in the same vein as this based on Animal Crossing.

Read it. It's worth it.

Oh god yes to Boatmurdered and Animal Crossing.

The images from the Animal Crossing LP haunt my dreams, and I have one of the pieces of Boatmurdered fanart as my wallpaper.

Just in case anyone doesn't realize, those are all hosted at the Let's Play Archive, which as the name suggests is a collection of Let's Plays, mostly done by the Something Awful forum, I think. Only some of them go as crazy as the ones posted so far, most people being content to just play the game and occasionally comment on it. Still, some of them are worth checking out if you're the sort of loser that likes watching other people play video games!

(I am that sort of loser.)

An LP I did of Star Fox 64 is linked to on that archive website.

I would recommend the Final Fantasy VIII LP by Leovinus for its humor, and Sonic 2006 by pokecapn as an example of absolutely horrendous game design.

Right now there is a creative Let's Play for Harvest Moon going on, in a similar vein to the ones posted here, most of the story is made up by the author.

Yes, that's the one!  I found it again, though.  It's archived here.

That was an amazing story.  It actually had a pretty surprising level of character development.

It just hit me that "peperony and chease" must have come from someone replying to the "What do you want on your tombstone?" prompt in accordance with the old Tombstone pizza commercials.
