I'm currently playing Mass Effect. I let Ashley Williams die on that one planet, making her post is about 100 times more hilarious.

I don't really get the Ashley hate. As she points out herself, it's not racism if they're not human.

The thing with Shepard punching people was hilarious.

Actually, the word 'racism' actually makes more sense in this situation since they're actually different species...

Wasn't the whole point of the Mass Efect system to create a blank slate upon which to project one's desires and fantasies? So by then making a satricial facebook for a character you, yourself, in effect created...

It's still irrational prejudice against people based on external appearance/genetics.  Plus, she was so self-righteous about it.  Actually, I thought there were a lot more human jerks than alien jerks in the game, all things considered.

Except the Salarians.  Those guys are all dicks.

The problem with racism is that it assumes that superficial differences mask major differences on the basis of absolutely no evidence. The differences between, say, Krogan and humans are not superficial; they are fundamental. As Wrex points out, there are no Krogan scientists. The most basic human characteristics - the concepts of mercy or justice, for example - are the product of a societal and evolutionary development which no other species shares.

Distrusting another species based on the fact that it has a completely different origin, ethos and biology from yours isn't irrational. Distrusting another person because of their skin color is.

Do Salarians have souls? How can a soul dwell in that disgusting body? Can a Salarian's freakish eyes harbor anything more than malicious or cruel intent? These are the questions that my Commander Shepard ponders. And he knows the answer.

I have to agree with that, even though it sounds like something people would have said about non-whites a hundred years ago. Still, she shouldn't have been such a dick about it. I still like her as a character, since she is very human, what with her prejudices and strong feelings on things she doesn't understand.
