MARRY ME I SEE TREMBLES

We are Shartaking, for any newcomers.

It's a browser game with a similar grid-like UD system, only more colourful. You can do lots of things in it. This is why you should come play.

Start as an outsider in York is the general advice, thats where most people are.

Alternately, Drunky McStumble and I wanted to be pirates, so we're waaaaay across the other side having a jaunty native-murdering expedition to join our fellows in York. Feel free to join us.

We also have a Pwotters clan. Once you're in, click on Clan, we're at the bottom of the list.

Edit by Gale The Masculine And Awesome - if you are joining the PWOT clan, we are pretty much doing our own thing, which is kill annoying people and make crass signs. Pip pip and good show. Be prepared to be killed by everyone if you stay in the open, the serious roleplayers sure dont like the people who arent playing properly and arent pretending to be 19th century courtiers.

Yes, too bad. You could warn them... if only you spoke Hovitos!

Fermun recommended Galava on the JC boards, and I and a few others play it.  Unfortunately, it's still in beta, however when it goes to full launch we could get in as a group, I guess, and be able to start off in a completely new game.  The SA goons already have a presence in the beta, I believe.

I don't have much experience in the browser games, but I'm up for joining whatever game the group picks. My preference is for something that you can leave for a day and not get completely destroyed.

Dogs of the seas looks pretty cool.

I've heard good thinks about Travian, which seems very similar to Tribal Wars.

There was another one recently that I remember nothing about except that Bakudai had played it for a while, but a few people played as I recall.
You're thinking of Rule the seas.

I'm down for whatever you guys want to play.

We already tried nexus war and it fell apart. I blame it on Elfy McElfton for being the least effective leader of anything ever.

That Battlemaster one looks pretty cool. A decent amount of depth but also, by it's own intro, still decently playable if you only have time for casual play.

My one quandary is if you can have your own small Duchy? 'Cos I don't really want us to have to all be in someone else's group right from the get-go. If we could have our own, that'd be hella cool.

Werty, can you shed any light?

Hmm, from clicking around a bit more it seems you can't just down-flag somewhere unclaimed and declare Pwotistan, but there are some regions with only 3 or so other nobles we could just kinda all drop into. That's if this game takes anyone's fancy anyway; I'm still learning what to do, it's very different from most others.

That or Dogs of the Seas. A Pirate alliance with 'real', it seems, ship combat would rock pretty damn hard.

I had to stop lurking and make a profile so I could recommend www.Shartak.com.

I've been playing for about a year (as opposed to UD, which got boring around the time I maxed out) and it's still fun.

From the main page:

Quote
Shartak is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set on a mysterious island where natives and outsiders hunt and explore.

For several hundred years the island of Shartak has been populated by three native tribes from the villages Dalpok, Raktam and Wiksik. More frequently in recent weeks, strangers known to the natives as "outsiders" are appearing on their island wearing odd looking clothes and carrying flashing boxes and loud sticks.
Initially the strangers kept to the coastline and out of the jungle, but now they're getting adventurous and heading inland towards the villages. It won't be long before they stumble across the villages and learn of the treasures of the tribal ancestors.

If you want to help the natives defend their villages or see if you can get your hands on the treasures from the island of Shartak, sign up here.

The game is has around a thousand players, but the map is huge (taking around three days to cross if you know what your doing) with lots of ways to level up. The game is very free form, with lots of role play and an active forum. Thus there's clans dedicated to everything from hunting outsiders, clearing roads, protecting towns against native attacks (and drunken pirates), hunting the kracken, healing the kracken, exorcising ghosts (you can play as a ghost instead of respawning), establishing towns in the more remote areas or messing with the jungle itself.

The mini map changes as the jungle grows or is cut down. Thus there's an ongoing war with road builders and the  deforestation movement on one side and tree hugging natives and environmentally aware outsiders hounding on the other. (Or if your less mature, images and text can be carved into the jungle and be seen by everyone).

A band of PWOTers could really make things interesting.

Shartak is a pretty cool game.

You can't just plop down in battlemaster... I've got a region lord in Belrutta (I think) -> Talerium, but I don't have enough gold for everyone from pwot to join me there, probably just one person. A better idea may be to start a religion, it doesn't cost as much gold. You'd have to convert people, though...

I messed around with Shartak and Galava and liked both of them, I'll throw my weight behind Shartak just because Galava is a beta. I'm in for whatever though.

I'm in for Shartak.  I say we style ourselves as scallywag conquistadors, so we can cover ourselves in that sweet, sweet Aztec gold.

I play Shartak when I remember. I think im still in the top ten for native murdering on the stats page.

Its pretty free and you have a lot of different groups, so it can be fun. Plus Native Murder.

You can have clans and stuff. If anyone wanted to go in as an outsider in York, I can give you a guided tour and good murder spots.

Is there going to be some community leadership about which game to join or what the Clan Plan will be? I'd join something, but only if there's gonna be an actual community of us, I'm not enthusiastic about these games to just kind of go it alone.

While I am extremely off put by the grid interface, I did have fun running up to people and yelling at them, then running away. Then I beat a stag to death with my rifle butt.
