Man I am pretty hyped for this game. If its as open ended as Ubisoft claims it is, I'm totally going to be a sniper and hide in tall grass and fuck people's shit up from a distance. This comes out in October right? I hope tomorrow is October, because I do want.

Looks like it's going to be a mashup of Crysis and Midwinter 2: Flames Of Freedom. Which is good.

FarCry 2 is on the way, dated to be released in August '08. Frankly, it looks amazing. From the G4 E3 coverage, it looks like Crysis without all the sucking. Each map is going to be something like 20x20 Sq. Kilometers of space to mess around in, and the graphics look top-notch, much like in Crysis, but, once again, without all the glitchiness and epic failure. The physics engine is insane- fire spreads through grass and up trees, environments are 100% destructible, and the spokesperson on G4 said you should still be able to run it on a PC from 2005- good news for we gamers who have trouble holding a job.

The singleplayer has been moved away from Magical Jack Carver in the philippines to a team of -human- Mercenaries in Africa. You have 14 people under your control, and you have to fight your way to a Weapons Dealer named the Jackal, who I'm assuming you will kill. The interesting thing, is that when one of your team members dies, he doesn't come back. You have 14 'lives' to finish the game. Once again, trusting the G4 spokesman, the gameplay is supposed to be open-ended and non-linear in a way no FPS has ever seen, with seemingly unlimited routes to the end of the game. Your characters will balance your trust between two organizations monopolizing on the suffering in Africa, and try to get information that will lead you to the Jackal.
They haven't released too much information, so that's the best synopsis I can give.

The selling point for me, however, is the Level Editor. I remember from FarCry making thousands of maps over countless hours, and being amazed at the simplicity and versatility of the built in editor. Well, the new program is supposed to blow the former out of the water, though I cannot honestly see any way that it could, other than size.

I tried to find the G4 E3 clip on youtube, but couldn't, so HERE is the trailer... enjoy and discuss.

Well, my Laptop is from 2007 which should roughly be like a desktop from 2005, but hey, you and I know FarCry2 is not going to happen on that kind of system.

Also, like if you wouldn't save and reload once a teammember dies...

I'm still pretty pumped for the game, looks awesome. I would get a console for this type of game, if consoles came with WASD-mouse...

Its been a long time since anyone has commented on Farcry 2 (if i am wrong please don't be pissed), i think it looks like a pretty bloody good game and i've already pre-ordered it, why isn't there some discusion on it. If you are new to this idea of Farcry 2 let me briefly explain:

its a brand new game i.e no story links with the previous title
its set in africa, in a fictional country
the map is like 50x50 kilometres
basic story is that you have to track down and eliminate an arms dealer called The Jackal
dynamic weather and fire (so if you start a fire it keeps burning)
weapons slowly wear away and eventually explode (like fallout 3)
and there loads and LOADS more (INLCUDING HANG-GLIDERS)

so please just start thinking or talking about it, if you are bitchy and hate the game then just go talk to Ubisoft

Pre-ordered. Can't wait, only a week or so until I can sink into this awesome game....I'm probably most looking forward to multiplayer but the open ended world is going to suck hours out of my life.

Does anyone know if it has monsters, like in the original Far Cry? Or is it just humans this time?

So due to my boss receiving this game for free a couple days ago and not wanting it, I have happily taken it off his hands and have been playing for the past two days. My initial impressions are pretty good. The world is goddamn huge, that's for sure. Graphics-wise, it's utterly beautiful, especially during sunsets and nighttime. And setting the prairie grass on fire and watching it spread is amazing.

I'm not too far into the campaign yet, only just having completed the preliminary training missions. So far it's an intriguing story, this Jackal somehow having found all this power and wielding it against both sides of this African nation.

Only thing bugging on me right now is the voice acting. It's too hurried and wooden. But other than that, it's a rock solid game. And I haven't even touched the map editor yet.

I have the 360 version.

Eesh. Those with queasy stomachs won't love the animations of people digging bullets out of their hands and arms. In multiplayer I was shot in a way that my arm was broken, and I healed it by snapping it back into place, complete with graphic mushy and cracking sounds. Major props to the Ubisoft sound people for this game.

The AI is a little bit quirky. Sometimes enemies will stand out in the open while firing at you, just waiting to be picked off, while other times they'll flank you and sneak through vegetation in order to gain the upper hand.
