An ambigram. I used to draw those for people (mostly girls, because chicks dig that stuff). That one has quite a few cut-corners, and a couple of the letters in "disaster" are a bit over-stylized to fit the design and to actually resemble the intended letters.

Ya I remember noticing a lot of those tattoos after Angels and Demons came out. Also from the website that someone above linked, I strongly disagree that this is a bad tattoo. "Bad-ass" maybe...

Are you sure that's not just paint or something?  I didn't think they could do tattoos with white ink.

Yep, there is white ink used for tattooing. I would have linked the GIS results, but I don't know what your tolerance for tacky tramp stamps and questionable Chinese characters is.
