I’m not sure whether I’m more amused by the article itself or the comments. Seriously, how can people miss the fact that it’s a HUMOR article on a HUMOR website that’s satirizing the nutjobs on the extreme right? Like no one wrote articles about what the extreme left nutjobs thought of Bush? Come on, guys. A little perspective here. Also, when in doubt, apply the MST3K mantra: Repeat to yourself “It’s just a [website], I should really just relax.”

Heh, reminds me of Colbert. If this were taken on the same level as other forms of facetious political commentary, it would, of course, be unfair. Hell, if you have to go as far as pulling Fox News material to tear apart, you’re probably someone who pokes fun at the disabled. But forum comments? Really?? While straw men can certainly be hilarious, even ones intended for entirely comedic purposes tend to make people forget that the message is weak or unsupported by the arguments (even for the best messages). Political satire is still political, and it is still satire/comedy (insight!). So no shenanigans about this being comedy, not politics; it’s both. It just doesn’t do the latter honestly (which is perhaps a lot of what makes it funny).

There’s not even anything wrong with communism, on a small scale, where it’s genuinely a community running itself self-sufficiently - rather than the political system of Communism with a big ‘C’, which in my view is essentially fascism.

Sure, it’s a slightly selfish ideal, as these communes rarely interact with the world around them and thus can only add value to their own tiny economic system. It’s not far off the traditionally conservative ideals of small-town/village, ol’-fashioned, everyone knows your name, wholesome family-land. Only without the soap.

I grew up in a socialist caste based country so this has no effect on me either way

If the Obama fears of conservatives are realized (it could happen), the entire society turns into a socialist caste system, which from my experience is not Star-Wars-Empire-bad (more like the Jedi-Order-bad). Home sweet home

roflmao… but seriously, here’s something i don’t get: why is there this divide on such stupid shit? i mean, really, why… at this point “socialism” is the new “communism” and i’m just really wondering when socialists, communists, capitalists, etc will start considering a really simple solution: the negatives of one system could be counter-weighted by the positives of another system.

why must we stick to just the policies of one system that, really, were all made up by a bunch of people anyway? it’s all made up so we can live in such large numbers effectively. as cliched as it may sound, why can’t we just work together for the benefit of everyone? capitalism seems to help the individual but tends to fuck over the group when taken too far. socialism favors the group, but also can be taken too far to hinder individual efforts (on these, i’m speaking of the purest form of each system). so… can’t we find a balance? it just doesn’t seem nearly as hard as we make it. screaming about nazis (on all sides) is clouding up the real issue: how can we encourage individual efforts and the progress it brings while implementing policy that makes sure even the poorest among us always has his head above water?

am i evil for thinking that health care, education (including higher education), proper nutrition, and a place to live should all be considered basic needs and should be provided adequately to all? and sorry if i don’t shed a tear if it means people who are disgustingly rich find themselves only crazy rich. boo-hoo, they won’t get the yacht AND the jet.

oh, and before i get off my soap box, who finds it a little ironic that some of people are screaming about the (fictional) “death panels” while in the same breath manage to rant “i don’t wanna pay for someone’s care if they smoke/are fat/have ever done drugs/etc since that’s their own fault and they should just deal with it themselves”? so, they’re only against death panels (if such a idiotic thing were even being considered) if someone who isn’t them is running it… theoretically, they do believe some people aren’t worthy of being helped and should be denied care even if the denial is a death sentence. interesting.
