We milk the goats, and the sheep, sell them, breed them and occasionally eat them. BUt let me say, their only bad day is their last day, and that's quick and humane. The factory farms are why we do this, though primarily because the meat from them is usually full of crap, and the milk has all the nutrition cooked out of it, and needs to have more put in. We have raw milk, full-fat, and wonderful goat's meat to eat. And if anyone touts the idea that goats are naturally low in fat, tell them that out of a 180 pound goat, we usually butcher about 40 pounds of fat out of it, along with the fat throughout the meat. MMmm-that's good meat! And we use the fat to make soap, and feed the reamins to our dogs-nothing goes to waste, even the skin. I can watch the chickens hang upside down, get shocked, run across the throat slitter, and then bleed out. I can watch the pigs come into the kill room, get shocked, hung upside down by the achilles tendon, have the throat slashed, and bleed out. I can watch the similar slaughter of the cows. Then at lunch time, I go out and eat fried chicken, ham, or rib eye steak. It is true that the slaughter house odors are bad.
