To be honest, the torture photos didn’t make enough of an impact the first time around. People are stupid, and unfortunately, there is still plenty of room for the egregiously stupid to completely misinterpret this article. The Bush administration just walked away from this and the president still hasn’t made the effort to address the problem of Guantanimo Bay. Yeah, we’re not going to lift the embargo but we’re going to keep our creepy prison running for now or maybe close it in the near future sometime surely in the next couple of years. We’re going to send some people who have been tortured for the past eight years back to Afghanistan but the others are going to federal prison (where they’ll no doubt be tortured some more by the inmates and guards.)
Think we can send a few nice balloon animals Bush’s way? This is and has been ridiculous. For the people who aren’t quite getting why this is horrible (note: not the author) picture the abuses being done by any other government in the world. Wouldn’t it be condemned? Wouldn’t those responsible wind up with economic sanctions against their government? (Burma. Somalia. Formerly Iraq, allegedly for abuses against the Kurds. Probably Iran, for nuclear missiles and hating the hell out of journalists.) What gives the US indemnity? Shit, a little personal responsibility here people. Isn’t that what conservatives are always whining about? (You know: why they hate poor people so much?)

I really feel sorry for those people who lack the ability to understand satire and irony (p.s., I mean irony in its actual meaning). It is becoming an increasingly popular form of delivering social commentary and unless you can learn to look more deeply into things then you are going to miss out.

Do you not see the last frame, do you not get that?? It’s not laugh out loud funny, these sorts of things never are, but the satirical element is there. He even explained it at the bottom for you, and even if you didn’t think it came across you should at least take into account his intentions before throwing around even more offensive language.

Furthermore, bringing the fact that he’s American into it “Daniel van Vuuren” is really cheap. Yes we all hate America but that has nothing to do with anything.

Nice work Swaim, personally I didn’t expect this from you but I appreciate the thought.
