I’m fairly sure that “phantom rat” means that there were actually no rats present but because Robert Downey Jr was so damn high he thought there were rats… and decided to throw them.

Actualy, concidering all things Iron Man, he makes a perfect fit. Especialy if you concider the whole fact that Tony Stark’s an alcoholic.
